BETTER OFF FRIENDS

BETTER OFF FRIENDS                             ELIZABETH EULBERG

Better off Friends by Elizabeth Eulberg  For Macallan and Levi, it was friends at first sight. Everyone says guys and girls can’t be just friends, but these two are. They hang out after school, share tons of inside jokes, their families are super close, and Levi even starts dating one of Macallan’s friends. They are platonic and happy that way.

Eventually they realize they’re best friends — which wouldn’t be so bad if they didn’t keep getting in each other’s way. Guys won’t ask Macallan out because they think she’s with Levi, and Levi spends too much time joking around with Macallan, and maybe not enough time with his date. They can’t help but wonder . . . are they more than friends or are they better off without making it even more complicated?

From romantic comedy superstar Elizabeth Eulberg comes a fresh, fun examination of a question for the ages: Can guys and girls ever really be just friends? Or are they always one fight away from not speaking again — and one kiss away from true love?

MY REVIEW:                       Not your average YA!!!
What a wonderfully depicted YA book.  This has everything you would want in a romantic comedy.  I just loved it but don’t be fooled into thinking it is just for the young.  It had a lot to offer this 50+ mother of 4.
Don’t think this is you normal YA or contemporary story.  This Author Elizabeth Eulberb, doesn’t put any punches.  Macallen Dietz was asked to show new comer Levi Rodgers, around her school, since it was Mr. California’s first day.  After losing her mom last year in a car accident and everyone treating her with kit gloves, being asked on the first day to do this is just fine with her.
She treats him like a cold fish leading him around the school showing him where all the important places are.  Then dropping him off at his first class and introducing him to his teacher.  She could tell by the look in his eyes he was scared but what could she do she had her own classes?  God knows she didn’t want to stick out any more than she had to after last year, even though she was one of the more popular girls.
At lunch she sees him sitting all by himself looking really uncomfortable.  They make eye contact as she starts to pass and they smile and wave.  She just happens to see a button from a UK TV show that she just loves and looks at her girlfriends and ask if they would mind if he joins them.  Of course they say no.  She goes over and ask him to join them.
She does and she sees and hears the relief in his voice.  When they sit she mentions the button and he is so surprised that she knows the show and they both at the same time start reciting the line from it.  From that point in 7th grade they become the best of friends but don’t even begin to think that it’s all smooth sailing because it is not.  You will laugh, tear up, feel angry and joy of the milestones that they each make.
This is a story you would feel great joy in passing on to your kids to read or you best friend.  I really enjoyed and I know you will too.  Provided by netgalley.com

Stealing the Groom by Sonya Weiss  ** Only 99¢ for a limited time **

Friends don’t let friends marry the wrong woman…

Chad Walker may be a take-no-chances man with a plan, but there’s no way Amelia Snyder is going to let her best bud marry Mean Girl #1—even if the wedding is solely so he can secure the controlling shares in his family’s company. But free-spirited Amelia’s at-the-altar groomnapping scheme takes a surprising turn when she ends up as the blushing bride instead.

Suddenly, with Amelia living in her handsome husband’s home—in his bedroom, no less—she starts to reconsider their strictly platonic arrangement. But Chad’s always been anti-risk and definitely anti-love, and betting a lifetime of best friendship on the chance at forever might be the biggest gamble of all.

MY REVIEWS:
This was one of the best stories of friends becoming more that I have read in a very long time.  Because these two were truly great friends since childhood.  Amelia Snyder (Ame) and Chad Walker had been friends since birth basically.  You see their grandparents mainly grandfathers were best friends.
When Ame’s parents were killed in a car accident at the age of ten Chad was twelve.  He rode his bike over and sat with her until morning then when he knew she fell asleep he left then.  The next night he sat with her again this time she hugged him tight and cried into his neck and he let her and just patted her back.
Then when his parent split up she was there for him letting him vent then she just hugged him tight so, so tight.  That he could not remember the last time he had been hugged.  That is when he knew that no matter what it took he would keep Ame as his friend and in his life forever.  She was to important to him to ever lose.  He would never love like his father though it only messes things up.
Yet, when Ame hears on her answering machine that Chad is marrying the meanest girl from high school, her world starts spinning off its axis and she jumps on a flight home.  He never wanted to marry ever, ever if they did it would be for love and love only.  She had to save him from Olivia.  She knew that for sure for it was a promise they had made to one another to never marry unless it was for love and love only and she knew neither one of them was in love or wanted to get married so what was he thinking?  Can she stop him?
You will have to read to find out…

Southpaw by Raen Smith  I fight because I have no other choice. I fight because it’s in my blood.

Given Name: Kelly James Black

Born: Madison, Wisconsin
Age: 24
Height: 6’1”
Weight: 205 lbs
Weight Class: Light Heavyweight
Record: 12-0-0
Relationship Status: Train wreck

Meet MMA fighter and Piper Sullivan's roommate extraordinaire, Kelly Black, in this South Boys Novella. This story takes you on Kelly's Black journey to love and overcoming a broken past. Approximately 24,000 words, it can be read as a standalone or for more enjoyment, can be read along with Southbound Surrender.

MY REVIEW:
This story is about an underground ring fighting.  Kelly James Black is a 24 year old Research Scientist with past family issues that lets off steam by fighting in these fights.  He sees his therapist who tells him that it is better to do the fighting in the ring then it is to do it on the street and get arrested like he has already once.
One of his best friends and roommate is a student and a girl names Piper Sullivan who is dealing with her own family issues and is crashing on his couch after one night she helped him home after a night out of fighting and drinking too much.  He made a pass at him she refused it she put him to bet and fell asleep on his couch to keep an eye on him and never left.  She plans on fixing him.  They argue and he says she is the little sister he never had.
Then one night at one of his fights he sees and meets the one and only woman that has ever really rocked his world and is starting to change his world in a positive way.  She too is a student ready to graduate soon and she is in the life sciences program and she is a yoga teacher.  He is changing his thinking around her for the good.  But…
Although I liked this story to me it really felt like I was left hanging.  You know with so many unanswered questions, I just really don’t enjoy that feeling.
I like that Olivia stood by him for Kelly he was able to work through some major issues in some ways but had a whole lot more to go through.
As for Piper, I really felt like there was this past love she was pining over that she was in love with Kelly too.  I am not sure she or even Kelly got it.  Maybe not but that was my take on it.
It all just seemed so rushed too.  I understand it must be a novella but still.  So I chose the middle grown with giving it a rating a three star.  Provided by netgalley.com.  Find us at: www. 1rad-readerreviews.com
