THE FAULT IN OUR STARS

THE FAULT IN OUR STARS                           JOHN GREEN
Posted:  June 24, 2014

Despite the tumor-shrinking medical miracle that has bought her a few years, Hazel has never been anything but terminal, her final chapter inscribed upon diagnosis. But when a gorgeous plot twist named Augustus Waters suddenly appears at Cancer Kid Support Group, Hazel's story is about to be completely rewritten.

MY DAUGHTER'S REVIEW:
The Fault in Our Stars by John Green is an amazing young adult novel. You'll fall in love with the characters in this book. It’s such an amazing novel all around. It’s the equal amount of humor, romance, and tragedy. While reading the novel have tissues with you because this novel can be so sad. You will feel the emotions that the main characters feel. This has been one of my favorite books and can't wait to read more books by John Green.

I loved it so much I've read it 3 times and saw the movie twice now.  My parents just bought me the special edition copy as a going away present for my trip to Australia with People to People in July. Yay!

CRACK IN THE ARMOR

CRACK IN THE ARMOR                                   HELENA HUNTING
Posted:  June 24, 2014

Chris, a sexy tattoo artist, tries to win the heart of Sarah, a grad student with little interest in him, in this second e-short and follow-up to Helena Hunting’s gripping love story, Clipped Wings—“twisted, dark, incredibly erotic…a love story like no other” (USA TODAYbestselling author Alice Clayton).
Part owner of the Chicago tattoo shop Inked Armor, Chris Zelter is a talented artist who decorates skin with gorgeous designs. He might look the part of the typical jacked-up, inked-up bad-boy, but underneath is a fiercely loyal, complicated man. Kicked out at sixteen, Chris has had to fend for himself for the last twelve years, making his Inked Armor crew as much family as they are business partners. For him, it’s enough—until he meets Sarah Adamson.
A grad student waitressing at the local strip club, Sarah is used to propositions and crude comments. The job is a means to an end—finish her MBA, pay off the tuition loans, and get a good job. Then she won’t have to rely on anyone to take care of her. So when brawny, tatted up Chris begins hanging out at the club, she rebuffs his advances. At first. But Chris isn’t like her usual clientele: despite his hard exterior, he’s almost…sweet.
Sometimes, the people with the roughest edges have the biggest hearts.

MY REVIEW:
This was an interesting chapter basically. It was all things that are Chris.  Since we really didn’t know anything about him it was helpful to get some real background on him.
What we find out is that even though his face is all hard angles it gives him a harshness unless he smiles.  Also, if he is into you as a women, which Sarah is only the second one, he is totally into you.  At the beginning of this story he appeared almost weak in the way he kept texting and checking his messages to see if Sarah had returned his messages.
Then there was his reacting to the way Jamie and Hayden reacted to their ladies he seemed crass almost or unsure around women.  Then I find out he was a ladies man who bedded tons of women.  Yet, his persona in the bedroom when Sarah finally comes over is a whole other side of Chris that just makes you go Hmmm?
When in the middle of intercourse he starts to panic over a situation that occurs.  I start to wonder what that was about.  The past, the consequences, control, or anger?
As for Sarah, she is playing with fire when it is coming to work.  My stomach kept turning the whole time she was there.  Her new boss is going to apply pressure and she is losing sight of why she was doing it in the first place.  She is also playing a game with Chris’ heart just by the way she answered him during that tense moment in bed.  By torturing him every night not answering his texts or calling him back at all when she is feeling at odds etc…She wants her cake and eat it too.
It’s only a chapter at 41 pages on my smart phone kindle.  Yet, we get a lot of connect the dots to Chris.  There are the first chapters to Clipped Wings and Inked Armor.  I give this 4 stars for being so short.      Provided by net galley.

THE BOOKSHOP ON THE CORNER

THE BOOKSHOP ON THE CORNER             REBECCA RAISIN

Who said that only real heroes could be found in fiction?
Sarah Smith had an addiction – she was addicted to romance novels. The meet-cute, the passion, the drama and the gorgeous men! Now this wouldn’t have been such an issue if she hadn’t been the owner of the only bookshop in Ashford, Connecticut.
Ever since her close friend Lil, from The Gingerbread Café, had become engaged she had been yearning for a little love to turn up in her life. Except Sarah knew a good man was hard to find – especially in a tiny town like Ashford. That was until New York journalist, Ridge Warner stepped into her bookshop…
Love could be just around the corner for Sarah, but will she be able to truly believe that happy-ever-after can happen in real-life too!
From the brilliant author of The Gingerbread Café trilogy don't miss this linked novella to get a sneak-peek at how Damon and Lil are getting on before the next book in the series - Coming October 2014!

MY REVIEW:
This was a very sweet little short story.  The story line is near and dear to me over the last 5 years or so before getting sick I was a multitasker.  Never had time or got enjoyment from reading could stop or slow my brain enough.
Raising a family and all just never allowed my mind to quiet itself enough.  When I became ill that all changed it was all I could do but read.  To escape my room, my mind, my illness and my fears that was yet to be diagnosed.
So, reading so many books and talking with authors and reviewing a few then being asked to do it on a regular basis for one evolved into this.  Now the blog.  Here where I am going with all of this…These books do take on a life of their own in your head.  If you knew how many different readers on my phone I have you would laugh and then how many hundreds of books I have you would call me crazy.
It kills me when a new author comes out with a book and I don’t get it for fear I’ll miss out on that gem of a book.  Or that book that was so special it haunts you so you remember bits and pieces of it.  I can honestly say I am not like Sarah Smith from “The Bookshop on the Corner” who reads books over and over.  I do however keep actual books or series of books to share with family and girlfriends.  Sarah like myself loved a good romance.  Yet, she hid behind it, out of fear of chancing her heart.  So, she ran her shop and putted along.
After a weekend of a Chocolate Festival in the town of her dearest friends had put on.  Lil the owner of Gingerbread Café with her assistant and their dearest friend CeeCee the grandmotherly one of their group and local “Spacebooker”.   Then there is Missy the owner of “The Sassy Salon” and her dearest friend.  Why you ask?  They all gather because the sexiest well-built live “Book Boyfriend” to ever come to life had been to the festival and was asking the girls all kinds of questions about her and her alone.
Yet, to her, he was Mr. Ridge Warner a journalist from New York.  There to do a story on their town of Ashford and their quiet little shops especially hers.  Could he really be trusted?
He just made her so nervous that she just started a flirtatious banter with him the minute she opened her mouth to say, “No” to not using her or the shop in the article.  She wanted people to wander upon the special nook not be force fed it in an article.  See the sparks these two make in this 5 stars short story.  Provided by net galley.
