A 5000-word FREE short romance story. Enjoy!

Also includes a preview from "Curves for the Rockstar".

MY REVIEW:
Lucy and Danny have known each other since grade school.  They basically had this hate you in public like you in private mentality due to the fact that he was her brother Lucas’ friend.  One day he took it too far.
He told Lucy, “Lucy, none of the boys like you!  You’ll never get a date with anyone…  You’re just not pretty enough.”  That just crushed her.  It really hurt her a lot.  Her brother kicked his ass after spending the whole night trying to stop her from crying.
Like a dog with his tail between his legs he brought her flowers to say he was sorry and that he liked her.  Now here they are 16 years later Danny is the lead singer of their Rock Band that is hotter than hell, Lucas is the drummer.  Danny always seen in the Tabloids with super models or playboy bunnies so he could never see anything in her, being a plus size.  Wrong, he does, and he writes a song.
I know this is a short but it had all the elements that you look for in a love story.  As well as a well-developed characters.  Solutions to the dilemmas were handled well too.
I give this 4 stars only because it was too short.  Wanted more. J

PROPERTY OF THE SAINTS MC

Property of The Saints MC by Cora HartClaire is assigned to write a story on the local town's motorcycle gang. From the moment she walks in, she feels a combination of fear and lust. Dangerous bad boys surround her.

Axel takes her under his wing and protects her when an ex-member attacks. She feels that she must repay him with her desire, even though they are in public.

The president of the motorcycle gang arrives, and Claire ends up in deep trouble.

Warning: This 5,700 word story is intended for mature audiences only. It contains graphic descriptions of bad boy motorcyclists, curvy beauties, and rough sex. Buyer beware. ;)

MY REVIEW:
Claire is sent to the Saints MC to do a story on them, basically a human interest one.  It came about because of all the bad press they had been getting lately.  Her editor wanted to get their point of view on all the trouble but knew they wouldn’t get it so went with the human interest angle and they bought it.  So Claire made contact and an appointment for her to meet with snake the president, Axel the vice president, and Barcrawl a new recruit.
When she arrives at the MC head-quarters she as greeted by a mean ass old guy that goes by the name of Dawg.  But then she is save by the much young, sexier, and far edger bad boy by with a soft side.  That tells Dawg she belongs there for an interviews.  Right away there is a sexual attraction for Claire.  So, when Axel starts flirting with her she is blown away.
She starts to use the mutual flirting in her favor when a brick in thrown through the front window of the MC HQ.  Axel right away pulls out a gun and grabs he by the shoulders and moves her to safety behind the bar, telling her not to move.
This has a lot of potential to be something good but too short as is.  Just when you start to get into it, it’s over.  This chick wasted no time jumping into unsafe sex by the way, YUK!  Would have given it more stars if there had been more to it because the curvy girl & the MC’er.  Was a good angle…but did not do it.  3 STARS

More Than Friends (Romantic Short Story)Carrie is meeting a group of friends for dinner, but it ends up being just the two of them -- her and a new guy, Josh. This could be awkward. More Than Friends is a sweet romantic short story, 2500 words long.
2,870 words

MY REVIEW:
This is one super short story.  It is mainly what most would call the beginning of a love story.  If you look at it that way I would have to say true.
This is two co-workers who work just two cubicles down from each other in the accounting department at work.  On Friday’s after work a steady group of between 4-8 shows up to have dinner at different restaurants each week.  This week though only Carrie and Josh could make it.
At first they felt a little awkward but once they settled in it was all good.  Their talk just flowed until…The chemistry appeared to be good.  Until a mystery guest appears at the restaurant and causes an awkward vibe.  Josh is cool and plays along with her then when not needed drops her like she wasn’t there.  I give this 4 stars.

FEARLESS CURVES

FEARLESS CURVES

Fearless Curves by D.H. CameronBrandy isn't unhappy. She's got a decent job working as an assistant lawyer for an ex-con defense attorney. She's got a nice condo in Las Vegas. She's a nice girl living up to everyone's expectations. Brandy isn't entirely satisfied with her life, but she's getting by. However, all that gets turned upside-down when she meets her new client, Jack.

Jack's a biker, and an arrogant one at that, who likes to be called Rogue. He immediately takes a liking to Brandy and her lush body but he scares the daylights out of her. But it's not his tough demeanor and his legal troubles that frighten her. It's the way he makes her feel, like she wants to do bad things, like she wants to get into trouble, like she can't resist Jack and will end up doing whatever he wants.

But after a night of wild, frenzied passion, Brandy is confused by her feelings for the sexy biker and kicks him to the curb. She complains to a friend but instead of sympathy Brandy gets a shocking pep talk and some outrageous object lessons about life. Brandy learns that not being unhappy isn't the same as being happy. That living in fear of being judged by others isn't how to live her life. But can Brandy win back Jack and push aside her doubts? Can Brandy learn to be fearless?

MY REVIEW:
Brandy and Jack were really truly an unlikely pair.  Brandy is an assistant attorney to Vic a lawyer who is middle aged.  He has a shaved head, a beard, and tattoos on his chest and arms.  Since he works out regularly you couldn’t really tell his age and since his ex-stripper wife, from here on the Vegas strip, go at it like rabbits well…
Vic became a lawyer after serving time back in the 1990’s for some robberies, and got his degree from Texas A & M.  For the most part he has gone straight.  But, he defends some shady characters that really walk the lines of society.  But, never anything for major crimes.  For anything that they are sure guilty.
Vic and his wife are due to go on vacation so Brandy is due to take her first case by herself.  Jack Anker’s an illegal search on a traffic stop for a licensed concealed weapon. For which he had been coming from the firing range.  Being that he is a biker with tats that is why he was stopped.  Vic and she are due to meet with him on Friday at 3:30.  That time does work for them both, but Vic ends up leaving early so she meets him alone.
In fact when she gets back from lunch he’s sitting in the lobby of the office waiting.  Not good though since she locked the door before she left.  When she asked how he got in he basically said, “I picked it.”  From the moment she walked in his gray eyes were mentally undressing her.  All through the review of the case he flirted.  She liked it as much as she hated to admit it.  She was afraid of him or rather his type.  She had this over whelming feeling knowing he wouldn’t hurt her and he turned her on.  Once they finished discussing his case he asked her out.  You will have to read it to find out how this BBW and this Biker Bad Boy fair.
I enjoyed this story for the most part very much.  It has a story of a young lawyer who is reaching beyond her comfort zone to find her happiness not what everyone else wants or what she thinks they want.
You have to be aware although this is a very short story it has strong sexual content, strong language, and the last sex scene was too rough for my liking but was over quickly, thank goodness.  Different strokes and all.  I give this 4 stars.

Heat by Jamie K. SchmidtOn the run from her abusive fiancĂ©, ER doctor Mallory Bryant arrives at her sister’s Connecticut resort desperate for a place to restore balance to her life. But Couture is more than a haven for the rich and fashionable. Beneath its elegant facade is an erotic playground where dominants and submissives play out their fantasies. At first, Mallory is wary of Max Spencer, the martial arts trainer acting as her bodyguard—until he introduces her to passion so intense she wants nothing more than to surrender to his touch.

As one of Couture’s most skilled doms, Max enjoys taking Mallory to the limits of pleasure. It’s a dangerous proposition, and as their sensual games draw them into a relationship beyond the boundaries of pupil and master, Max starts spiraling out of control. But when Mallory’s violent past catches up with her, Max knows what he must do: draw her closer than ever before, even if it means risking a surrender of his own.

Includes a special message from the editor, as well as excerpts from other Loveswept titles.

MY REVIEW:
Mallory Bryant is an ER doctor who has been living with a lawyer, David.  As it turns out he has an extensive history of drug use and abuse toward Mallory.  He says it is due to all the hours she puts into the hospital taking away from his time.  The sad thing being she hit it from everyone because she wanted to maintain her perfect image she had regained after what happened with her older (by ten years) sister.  Not only that, she felt she should have known better.
Colleen and Mallory had been estranged for years because Colleen was always the wild child.  She worked in Vegas where they grew up even a call girl for a time being.  So, she, Mallory, always tried to be the good girl for her mom and dad.
This time when she came home from work, David was on a major high and out of the blue struck her before she could brace for it.  Then, he forcefully put an “X” pill in her mouth to take which she tried to extract but he held her down until it dissolved.  She then saw him hallucinating and she knew she would start so she crawled under her bed to wait it out.  When she came to, she packed a small duffle bag, grabbed her keys, her engagement ring, and left before David came to.
She called her mom, her mom told her that she would be the place he would look first.  Her mom told her to go to her sisters that she could keep her safe.  She really didn’t want to but she knew Colleen would keep her safe no matter what.  So, she did, it was like getting in to Fort Knox which made her feel a little better for she knew David would never get in.
Colleen introduced her to Max Spencer a Martial Arts instructor on staff that would be giving her lessons on self-defense and also be her body guard for any time she left the grounds.  Colleen did not mess around with her baby sister’s life.  When she wanted to go get her things from David’s Colleen sent her security team instead.  Unfortunately, David wasn’t there, she, Colleen wanted his hide.
Meanwhile, see how a friendship and a bond form between Max and Mallory.  Even though they know they are taking a chance of Max losing his job with Colleen.  See if Mallory can finally confront David and return to her job.  See if Colleen and Mallory have truly healed their relationship.  Also, does Colleen find a new love of her life?
You need to understand this is pure and simple erotica with a back story entwined.  A good story but still erotica.  Your toes will curl at times that is for sure.  If you read it enjoy I did.  4 stars.  Provided by Net Galley.

LONG, HOT TEXAS SUMMER

LONG, HOT TEXAS SUMMER                 CAROLYN BROWN

Long, Hot Texas Summer by Carolyn BrownA sassy redhead with an axe to grind…
After catching her husband kissing another woman in the barn, Loretta Sullivan Bailey left Lonesome Canyon Ranch and swore she’d never come back. But when her daughter threatens to drop out of college to become a rancher’s wife, Loretta refuses to let her baby make the same mistake she did. She returns to the ranch, determined to get her daughter back in school by the summer’s end…and resolute on ignoring her feelings for her ex-husband.
A bullheaded but oh so sexy cowboy…
A cowboy from his hat to his boots, ruggedly handsome rancher Jackson Bailey is none too pleased that his feisty—and gorgeous—ex-wife has suddenly shown up seventeen years after their divorce. But despite all their fighting and fussing, the two stubborn former lovers soon discover that old flames burn the hottest. Can they finally put aside their differences and find happiness together…forever?
MY REVIEW:
Loretta caught Jackson Kissing a woman in there barn just after they were finally getting in the black on the ranch.  Or at least she thought she thought they were good in their marriage, the ranch, and in what she saw.  She didn’t give him time to explain.  She bundled up her 4 year old daughter Nona, and left Lonesome Canyon Ranch, to go home to her very controlling family in Oklahoma.  Not retuning until now 17 years later.
You see Nona has one year left in college and she has gone out to Jackson’s for the summer and fallen in love even further with the future foreman even more, Travis Calhoun.  He is a young man that her father even likes and respects a great deal.  Loretta is spitting nails and they are aiming for Jackson.  So without telling Jackson or Nona she is going to be camping-out at the Ranch with them so she can convince Nona to go back to school and finish that last year.
Travis and Nona have already done the deed and no Rosie (the elderly cook/housekeeper/grandma) is concerned a baby is on the way as well as a wedding.  She is telling Loretta she has no room to talk she had been in the same boat.  Which is what she’s worried about.  Which is mentioned, she is starting to have old feelings for Jackson pop up and that is scaring her.
Her parents and sisters hate Jackson for what they think he did to Loretta because she never did tell them what he did.  But it could be more than that Rosie just told her Jackson went to Oklahoma once a month for a year.  Her mom and sisters don’t like Jackson and want her home so they would stoop to anything to get what they wanted only dad was in the middle trying to keep the peace.
I really enjoyed this story for it dealt with a lot of the emotional sides of a break up that couples never want to address especially couples who marry young like they did.  It’s so much easier to cut and run, than to ask a lot of important questions first.  We are ready and willing to fight for a parking space but not a marriage.  Why is that?
This shows how we allow family members to interfere with our heads, emotions and lives.  We allow ourselves to see only one side to a story, our own, mostly out of fear.  This story does show that from both the male and female side.
One glaring item that grabbed me is when Jackson, his daughter, housekeeper, really everyone say, “Why didn’t you fight for him?”  No one addresses, “Why in the hell was he flirting in the first place and enough to allow this women to think she could meet him in his barn?  Only guilt preventing it.  That is what I want to know?”  I give this book 5 stars.  Provided by Net Galley.
