Aimee and the Heartthrob by Ophelia LondonHe never noticed her before, but now she’s all he can see…

Miles Carlisle is every teen girl’s fantasy. His rugged good looks and exotic British accent have helped catapult his boy band, Seconds to Juliet, to super-stardom. But after two disastrous and very public breakups, Miles isn’t interested in dating just any girl; he wants The One. And the only girl he’s interested in is not only his best friend’s little sister―and off-limits―but won’t even give him the time of day…

As a kid, Aimee Bingham had a huge thing for Miles…until he made fun of her for always tagging along. Now that she’s outgrown both him and her pigtails. the prospect of spending two weeks on tour with the childhood crush who broke her heart isn’t exactly enticing. Except now Miles seems interested. Very interested. And no matter how hard Aimee tries to resist him, her crush is definitely making a comeback.

But everyone knows that falling for a heartthrob is a backstage pass to heartbreak…

MY REVIEW:
When your parent’s divorce that’s trauma enough for a 12 year old.  But, to move you from the UK to America is beyond what can be asked of any young boy.  His dad had cheated on his mom changing his view for a while.
Miles Carisle is now “The Heartthrob” of all young girls everywhere that follow his band “Seconds to Juliet.”  His journey there was a hard one.  If it weren’t for his dear friend Nick Bingham and family he’s not sure he would be where he is today.  When he met Nick through the Big Brothers program, Nick’s class went to his school once a week, an integrating program.  They met the first day but he wouldn’t talk, a total loner and all pissed off.
When Nick found him by the CD player they bonded over their love for music.  From there they started hanging out after school and Nick’s teacher felt like he needed to email Nick’s parents to let them know about Mile’s history.   Nick’s parents being who they are doctors out to save the world and will to take anyone in to their home and family did just that and Mile’s mom too.  Nick’s teacher only made his parents open their arms wider.
Miles was just pissed at the world.  His parents had split up, his dad’s was caught cheating, and his mom didn’t give him a choice by moving him here to the USA.  Looking back now Nick is sure he was depressed too.
Nick described him back then as smart, passionate, and angry with nowhere to harness it.  That’s when he found music and joined the school band.  He continued to warn Aimee (Nick’s sister who had a crush on Mile’s since before he was famous) that he may have changed some things in his life but a lot was still the same like his temper and his short fuse.  He’s used to getting what he wants-whatever girl he wants too.
Aimee’s wall would get two bricks in place then lose one.  How can any of what Nick told her be true?  She had never seen any of that.  He was patient and sweet even when she was being a total brat.  He was strong, confident, and sure of everything in her eyes.  Was that just her old crush talking?
She wasn’t willing to stick her heart out again.  Not to mention her brother’s warning.  Last year she dated a guy who was from Italy but then after a semester he had to return since the allotted exchange was over.  He said he was going to talk to his parents about coming back to go to school not to worry he would come back he promised.  She waited and she heard and saw nothing of him.  Until, Becky (her friend) was on Instagram and called her to get on.  She did.  Finding out her guy has a new girlfriend-no wait in fact she is his longtime girlfriend that Aimee never knew about.  He had been cheating on his girlfriend with her, Aimee.
First, Miles and then him the “Italian Squid.” (My words not the authors.)  She was not willing to go there again especially with a guy who would never be around for her.  He would be on a tour bus having millions of girls screaming and who knows what else to get his attention.  Then the bricks got higher as she was told by her parents she had to be on the tour for 3 weeks since her friend Becky got mono so she couldn’t stay with her until her grandma got home from her vacation.  Her parents were called early to go to Doctors without Borders.  Since Nick would be interning for the summer with Miles band as a roadie mom called Marsha, Miles’ mom, to arrange her staying with them for 3 weeks.  Aimee was not happy with the arrangements.
You see Aimee used to be Miles’ Biggest fan.  Had a major crush on him.  She even had a blog about him.  Until her brother, Nick, told her the truth about what Miles thought of her.  Nick said Miles thought that she was a pest who had always had been a tag-along.  That crushed her crush.  She got rid of everything Music, posters, magazines, memorabilia, and asked Becky to get rid of the blog.
Her first day on tour, Miles walks up to her as if he knows her and then it becomes very clear he had no clue who she was.  The funny thing was that he looked at her in a sexually interested male.  Then, her phone rang and she said she needed to take it and walked away.  When she returned to the spot she saw he was talking to Nick so she thought well Nick told him who she was.  When she was only a few steps away she heard Nick say “Bro Code” and “Stay away and don’t make me hit you.”  Miles looked shocked when he looked at her again.
You see she had a growth spurt over winter/fall, her hair was longer and not so curly, and her boobs well grew too.  She was smug, a little hurt and a whole lot of MAD!  She played it off.  At first they just circled each other and then they ended up clearing the air…
This was such an enjoyably sweet love story.  The writing keeps your interest all the way through.  In your mind’s eye you could see the shenanigans unfold and find yourself smiling.  There was such an innocence to this story that you rarely see anymore.  Two people having an inner love, friendship and yet having good clean fun. I gave this 5 stars.  Provided by Net Galley.

JUST FOR APPEARANCES

JUST FOR APPEARANCES                         JENNA RUTLAND

Just for Appearances by Jenna RutlandHot man for hire...

Rachel Clarke is a single mom with three boys, and she needs help. Now. Unfortunately, her only option is John MacDonald-her high school sweetheart and the disgraced hometown hero who's just returned to Lake Bliss. He's perfect for the job. He cooks, he cleans, and he's amazing with kids. He's also still far too sinfully hot for Rachel's comfort...

Rachel is just as gorgeous as John remembers. But in order for his new youth activity center to be a success, John needs Rachel's help to earn the town's trust back. In exchange, he'll take care of her boys for the summer while she works. Except keeping their relationship strictly business is harder than he imagined. But summer can't last forever, and when it ends, so will their arrangement-and John's time in Lake Bliss.

MY REVIEW:
How parents hurt their kids in divorces or separations its numbers are too large to count.  For John MacDonald it was overwhelming.  It burned bridges that his son never even knew would be crossed someday.
To be mean John’s dad took full custody away from his mom.  To make life easier on his mom John cut down on visiting his mom to save his mom from his dad’s wrath.  Once he had custody he for the most part ignored John like he did before the divorce.  He just took custody out of spite.  No unusual.  When he noticed John’s grades were tanking he hired a tutor.
This tutor Rachel Clarke tutored John in Math and English as time went on they got closer.  He took her to his senior prom where they made love after in her dorm room.  His dad found out because he went home and told his father he didn’t want to go to USC or UCLA he wanted to go to UW.  So, that’s when his father knew they were more than tutor and student.  Mr. MacDonald went to her and told her she could hold him back to end up in a small town in nowhere or let him move on to have a real future.  She needed to tell him she didn’t love him and never did or he would never leave.
That crushed John (her too to have to say those words was like a knife to the heart.)  She thought it was the right thing to do.  You make sacrifices for those you love.  When Rachel went off to school after that horrible day it ripped her heart out.  She soon met her now ex-husband and thought she really loved him now she knows that was not the case at all.  Soon after she quit school to work two jobs full time in order to pay for him to go to law school and once he got in to this high power firm he dumped her basically.  He never saw the children because the firm he worked with had him abroad more than in the states, hell it was few months before he saw the twins and 9 months before he saw their third son.  Fast forward to her youngest being 5 years old and the twins being 7 years old and its summer now.  That’s the bad part, Rachel has gotten herself a job, and she no longer wants money from her ex for herself for the children fine but not for her.  The bad part is that it is starting in a week not in September like she thought and she has no one to watch the children.
That left her needing a sitter.  Now she had become best friends with John’s mom and her boys thought of her as grandma.   She had told her she knew of someone and would bring them by.  While she was out gardening a truck drives into her driveway.  She can’t see who it is due to the sun.  When they get out and speak she nearly drops to her knees and all she can think of is murdering John’s mom.  Because there stood John himself right there in her front yard, the thing is she never thought she would see him again.  She ask what he’s doing there and he responds by saying his mom said she was in need of help and a nanny and he was there to help.  That in fact he had a proposition for her where she could help him too.
See how these two maneuver a past that at first neither wants to deal with.  Eventually, they have no choice.  See how they react to the hurt, pain and time lost to a misunderstanding and communication glitch. I give this book 5 stars.  Provided by Net Galley.

Ugly Stick Saloon, Book 9

Angus McFarlan’s mother can’t be serious. Sell the ranch? Yet Mom has a point. Bringing the Rafter M out of bankruptcy has kept Angus and his brother too busy to date, let alone have children to inherit the legacy.

The last thing Angus wants is to get half-naked for the Ugly Stick Saloon’s Annual Cowboy Auction, but it’s a jump start into the dating scene. His buyer turns out to be a Dallas businesswoman, all legs and curves—a challenge to unwrap from that sexy, buttoned-down suit.

CEO Gwendolyn Graves has no time for a relationship. All she needs is a male role model for her young son, Dalton. She never thought her bachelor cowboy would impose conditions of his own. Like make her agree to spend time with him. Alone.

As Angus teaches Dalton what it means to be a man, he and Gwen discover a passion that ignites flames they thought they didn’t have time to fan. And soon find themselves learning how to open their hearts and be a family. Just when they start thinking longer term, Dalton’s father re-enters the picture—and trouble isn’t far behind.

Warning: Quiet, sexy cowboy and woman in a tight suit get all unwrapped and tangled in the sheets in Texas.

MY REVIEW:
When the universal conspires against two people who were madly deeply in love do we call it fate or bad timing?  It had been 7 years since Gwen Graves had been back to the only home she ever knew.  She left here with 2 years to go in college but it was wonderful whirlwind summer for she fell in love.
That summer before her junior year while she was home she fell hard for Angus McFarlan he was an up and coming Architect.  He had been home from Dallas at his because his father had just passed away.  Since his brothers were not able to do it he had to take over the operations of the family ranch and get his foreman’s up to par before he went back to his own life.
Gwen leaves to go back to college which he encouraged and they say they would keep in contact.  She couldn’t have him see her off at the station, she knew it would break her, so their last night of love making the night before she left she sticks a letter in an envelope.  While he’s still asleep under the stars in the bed of the truck she reaches for his pants and stuffs the letter in his back pocket to read later.  In it she tells him if he had asked her to stay and never to leave him she would have.  Most of all that she loved him.  Then she gave him her dorm number, address, and phone number.
When she came home for Christmas break and still had no call from him she just figured she was just his summer screw.  When she got home her parents hit her with the news that they bought an RV and they were hitting the road to see the world and that they were moving to Florida.  Her life was changing unfortunately without him.
For Angus he so wanted to contact her or go after her but yet again his life had taken a bad turn again.  His mom found out she had breast cancer.  That sealed it for him he had to move back home for good.  His fast track career he was rising quickly in, was ending even faster.  He would no longer be able to take larger bigger projects but he could contact the smaller ones to keep his feet in the pool so to speak.
He updated his father’s home office to meet his needs.  Which leaving Dallas rat race suited him just fine.  He amped up his own breeding operation which was now booming.  He has always been better with horses than people, maybe that’s why they call him the “horse whisperer.”
Now his mom has issued he ultimatum of two months for all her boys to be living and married on the ranch.  Or she will sell it.  Since none of them has the capital to buy it out right they have to do as she asks.  Including her surprise attack of signing them up as bachelors for Ugly Stick Saloon’s Bachelor Auction benefiting battered women right there in Temptation, Texas.
The thing that throws him totally off his mark is that he gets bought for a huge amount but the person that bought him.  It is none other than the woman he has not seen in 7 years Gwen Graves.  All he has to do now is get her to sell those dates back to him.  He can’t go on one date with her let alone 4 that his mom signed him up for…Gwen has her own surprise that she wants these dates for…
I really enjoyed this short erotica.  One because it truly had a story involved.  The characters were a hoot I especially liked Gwen’s friend Mona.  She was so funny.  I give this book 5 stars.  Provided by Net Galley.
