A SEAL FOREVER: (West Coast Navy SEALs #4)

A SEAL FOREVER                                        ANNE ELIZABETH

A SEAL Forever (West Coast Navy SEALs, #3)Special Operator Declan Smith was a dedicated U.S. Navy SEAL, a known player, and daredevil who loved pushing the limits. But on his last mission, an IED leaves him injured and angry as hell—and it changes everything.

But the man she finds covered in glass is far from the cocky ladies' man she'd grown to tolerate. Lying before her is a man fighting to rediscover his place in the world—and he can't do it alone.

HUBBY'S REVIEW:
Maura Maxwell is working on getting her life in order and though she would like to get to know her neighbor Declan Swifton, who is a Master Chief for Seal team 5. She has also seen different women go in and out of his condo. Declan comes in from a swim in the ocean and notices a storm is coming in so he goes inside to shower when he comes out and it is raining and the ocean is now rough he thinks he sees something out by a buoy. Grabbing his binoculars he sees someone holding onto the buoy and he runs into the ocean and goes out to get them when he realizes that it is his neighbor Maura. After getting her to calm down and to trust him to bring her into safety he then goes into medic training because she is freezing cold. This sets the stage for the beginning of a relationship or for each at least a try at one. It goes along good for weeks her with her new gym that she is in the process of buying and between her free time and his when his team is not training they spend time together and some weekends. This goes along good until they are at a very nice restaurant and they over hear a fight between a couple and the female ends up sitting at their table. Her and Declan dated a few times and now she thinks he is hers because she just broke up with someone. He tells her to leave and after a little bit she leaves but they end up fighting. After about four days she decides that it was foolish for her to get into a fight with him over this women when he wanted to be with her, so she goes next door only to find that he is gone but the place is a mess. Her thinking is that he got deployed quickly, so her cleans his place and decides that when he gets back to talk to him. He is on a plane with his team going back to Afghanistan and as he is usually able to sleep all he can think about is Maura. The first time in his life that he has thought of anyone else before a mission. He knows that when he gets back that he must talk to her and make it right. When it comes to the mission it seems to go good up until the very end and the tunnel that they were blowing up blew up before he made it all of the way out. The rest of the team was okay but he ended up losing part of his left leg, and he was in the different hospitals for months. When he finally did get back he did not tell Maura, until a few days later when he had a bad morning and crashed and broke some furniture plus was still having other physical pain. She came over to see what made the noise only to be surprised that he was home not of his injuries. She help him clean up and then she worked with him to get better both physically and emotionally. The second part of this book was very powerful because not only was he having to fight to get healthy again but they had to fight and decide what they wanted to do as a couple, and she turns into a very strong, but loving force and together they became a team. A very good book with good characters and some funny old guys thrown in there to make seem real. A good book. I got this book from netgalley.  I give this 4 stars.

SINNER'S STEEL :(Sinner's Tribe Motorcycle Club #3)

SINNER'S STEEL                                          SARAH CASTILLE

Sinner's Steel (Sinner's Tribe Motorcycle Club, #3)HE'S HELL ON WHEELS.
Tall, dark, and dangerously handsome, Zane "Tracker" Colter is the strong, silent type of tattooed muscle biker who drives women wild. But as a master of strategy for the outlaw MC club, Sinner's Tribe, he doesn't have time to play around with groupies and biker chicks-especially when he can't stop thinking about Evie, the girl who got away...

SHE'S PLAYING WITH FIRE.
Evie's been in love with Zane ever since they were children-until he broke her heart and disappeared. Now he's back in her life, bigger and badder than ever. Zane is stunned by how beautiful and confident Evie's become, using her artistic talent to customize motorcycles. He wants her so bad, he'd ride through fire to win her back. There's one problem: Evie is dating his deadliest rival-the leader of the Black Jacks-and if Evie and Zane hook up, there'll be hell to pay...

HUBBY'S REVIEW:
Zane Colter is a biker in a motor cycle club. For the past eight years he has thought about the person the girl that got away, Evie. Evie, Zane, and Jagger were always together when they younger and Zane would always look out for her. Finally her senior year they decide to take their friendship to a relationship only to have her father who was the sheriff catch them and later that night her father ends up dead along with Zane’s father and the warrant was put out for his arrest, so he left. He comes back into town three years later to find out that she is married and has a child and her promise of waiting for him was not to be. So now here they are following a guy who has betrayed their club and they are at a paint shop and who is there but Evie, who is now part owner and the main painter of the custom paint jobs. The big problem is that she is going out with the other motor cycle clubs president named viper. She is looking at her third date she is liking the thrill or the thought of thrill. Only to find out that Zane and Jagger are there and they both are with the Sinners. Zane becomes obsessed with finding out about all he can about Evie, she was not wanting him around but part of her was still attracted to him. Weeks go by and he is still putting himself into her life only to find out that they both needed to talk and she starts to find out things about him that still draw him to her. He also finds out the boy he saw is actually his and that adds a whole other layer to the story. Besides the story between the two of them there is the fighting between the clubs and the threat to her and her friends and her son and her business gets destroyed and she has to come to terms with what is going on. Zane does the same thing by turning himself in from years ago after hiring a lawyer to try to clear his name. This is a good book with a lot of action and enough sex to keep everyone wanting to turn the pages. Overall a good book. I got this book from netgalley.  I give this 4 stars.

AN ILL WIND

AN ILL WIND                                             JAMES P. HANLEY

An Ill WindIn this sequel to The Calling, Sheriff Luke Atwell and his deputies face individual and collective challenges from outlaws, gunfighters, renegade Indians, card sharps, and a thieving medicine show in a Kansas town in the 1870’s. The personal lives of the lawmen also change and nature takes its destructive toll on the town and its residents. When a black neighbor’s family is attacked and the oldest son killed, the sheriff gets the help of federal law enforcement and they chase a band of marauding ex-Confederates out to undo the changes resulting from the Civil War.

HUBBY'S REVIEW:
This was a fantastic western story. That was written with good characters, and situations that were more real than a lot of other stories that I have read. Mainly the story revolves around sheriff Luke Atwell and his new bride Peggy Mattingly. Jesse Markam is the deputy and is an expert in throwing a knife. The story picks up from the first book which I did not read and gives you a little back ground on each character. You then get into the story of their marriage and then the sheriff leaving for a few days to help another sheriff in a nearby town. Things go on with drunks and shoplifting that you expect and life at their ranch when they are not in town. Peggy owns a general store that mainly sells clothes. The story goes along and then when Luke gets back Jessie is sent to another town to track down a man that was in town while the sheriff was gone. On his trip he meets Tess who happens to be a female working for the Pinkerton's. Their want for each other is put aside because she still wants to prove herself at the agency. Back in town things continue to happen to where Luke and Peggy adopt a boy and then a storm comes in and rips apart their ranch so they now need to rebuild. About the same time a group of men ride through who are still upset about the South losing the war and kill one of their neighbor’s boy because of his race. Luke gets a hold of the U.S. Marshall and they form a posse to go after the group. This leads them back to Tess who happened to be in a town because her father was sick and had passed away. After this they head back to their town and Tess wants to try and get her job back at the Pinkerton's. I got so caught up in the story I did not want it to end. I was expecting more and that is when I knew that this was a good book and a great read. I got this book from netgalley.  I give this 5 stars.

Everybody takes her for granted, even the strung-out would-be mugger who tried to steal her purse late one night. HUBBY'S REVIEW:
Alison Ryan, is always being looked at as someone who needs to be taken care of. Either by her big bother or his friend Alex O’Malley whom she has been attracted to for a long time. She feels no one sees her though especially Alex. One night a guy tries to mug her but she stops him and ends up breaking his nose. When Alex shows up at the scene because he is a detective he gets after her for taking action instead of praising her for handling the would be attacker and being able to defend herself. This incident leads her to look at her life and to start sticking up for herself and not let people walk over her. She starts at work. This turns into her giving her notice and her boss finding out what is going on. Then the next day she takes her out and makes some changes in her appearance, clothing, and she goes to the gym but not to lose weight but for weight lifting. This ends up giving her the confidence to go Ireland for a couple of weeks and comes out of her shell with a man she met at a pub. Coming home Alex does not want to see her but ends up going to the airport to pick her up but does not recognize her. He is blown away by her look and by her new attitude, confidence. She ends up telling him she wants him and has been attracted to him for years and this leads him to either step up or step away. He steps up and the story takes a very good erotic but tasteful turn. A very good story. I got this book from netgalley.  I give this 4 stars.

NEMESIS: (FBI Thriller #19)

NEMESIS                                                      CATHERINE COULTER

Nemesis (FBI Thriller, #19)When Special Agent Lacey Sherlock foils a terrorist attack at JFK airport, she thinks her job is done and turns the reins over to the New York FBI. But stopping the grenade-carrying crazy was only the beginning. Another plot unfolds nearly simultaneously with a bomb at St. Patrick’s Cathedral. The terrorist at JFK refuses to speak to anyone but Sherlock. She heads back with counterterrorist Special Agent Cal McLain to try to get him to talk.

Meanwhile, Savich—with the help of Agent Griffin Hammersmith—has his hands full trying to track an elusive murderer who looks like a Hollywood Dracula. When Dracula’s attempts to kill Savich collide with Sherlock’s terrorist case, very strange things happen.

Who is really behind the bombing attack at St. Patrick’s? How does Savich’s mysterious killer fit into Sherlock’s terrorism investigation? Savich and Sherlock race against the clock, as more lives are in danger with every passing minute.

HUBBY'S REVIEW:
I felt like this book started off real good and I really liked the story line with the bombing. Agent Sherlock and her part of the story seemed good and moved a longed at a good paced. I really could not get into the Savich character and how his part of the story dealt with psychic dreams. It might just be me but then even in the dreams he was stronger than force that was supposed to try to overtake him. Maybe I missed something and needed to read one of the books before this one. So I liked half of it and thought maybe it could have been written differently. Just my take. got this book from netgalley.  I give this 3 stars.

They first kissed under the bleachers and as she was expecting Brad to ask her out in high school it was his best friend. Scarlett Harrison would go on to marry Todd. Now Todd is dead and trying to start over with their daughter she moves back to St. Louis. Brad and Todd became Navy Seals together and he is still blaming himself for Todd’s death, he chose not to re up or re-enlist instead went back home and is now a fireman and marine rescue diver for the fire department. The first mission he was not on with Todd he was killed. They talk about that first kiss and why he did not go any further, he is talking with a couple of the older guys at fire house and though he wants to make the commitment he is still holding back. After everything between them it is not until he is involved in a rescue in the Mississippi river at night during winter and she has not heard from him and finds out that he is at the hospital that it all comes together mostly for him. Overall a good book.I got this book from netgalley.  I give this 4 stars.

THE MESSY BAKER

THE MESSY BAKER                                   CHARMIAN CHRISTIE

The Messy Baker: More Than 75 Delicious Recipes from a Real KitchenSince when did every cookie on the plate have to be just like the next? Or each layer of cake exactly the same height? Which doesn't make it any less delicious; to the contrary, Charmian Christie's flavor combinations rise far above the ordinary. Why have a raspberry galette when you can enjoy a raspberry-rhubarb galette with drippy, unctuous walnut frangipane? Or how about a Brie and walnut whiskey tart? It's all yours without the rigid perfectionism or complicated instructions of other gourmet cookbooks.

Christie's warm, irreverent voice brings the fun back into baking at a time when home cooks—pulled from pillar to post by jobs and errands—need to have fun. The Messy Baker is a full-service book that not only guides the reader through simple, delicious recipes but is also there to help out when things go wrong. For anyone who gave in frustration when that cake collapsed or the frosting smeared, Christie's practical advice is here to rescue even the worst disaster and inspire the baker to try the next recipe.

HUBBY'S REVIEW:
This book is great just for the title. Though my wife has gotten me to clean up after I am done it is not to say that when I am in the process that my kitchen is not clean. Its starts and finishes that way but not while I am cooking. Like the author says be aware of a kitchen that is clean when they are cooking. Who do you create? How do you come up with new ideas or ingredients, she gives the push to try new combinations and new creations. She also goes over what items you should have in your kitchen before you get started. But she wants you to try new ideas and new recipes and change old recipes to new ingredients. I thought the pictures were great and just the overall idea of the book was a great idea. Years back my wife and I spent almost two years mixing ingredients that we had from her grandmother’s bread pudding. This is no regular bread pudding (capirotada) Mexican bread pudding. Made traditionally. But through testing and work and after two years the family said she got it, just like Nannie, my was happy and we still make it. But if we didn’t want to make a mess or make the time to experiment with a recipe that was not handed down this is what you need to do. So have fun, my daughter loves making homemade cookies and lasagna, for example. We also get messy, but I now clean up so my wife does not have to worry. A fantastic book. I got this from netgalley.  I give this 5 stars.

HUBBY'S REVIEW:
Jules Landu, is a Private investigator who has left the family business. His grandfather, and father were both in the mob. So he does know a thing or two about crime, but does not want to know where Eddie has come up with the cash for him to look for his ex-girlfriend. He does wonder in the back of his mind just getting released and having this much cash can let you turn a blind eye. He figures easy money because she finally left Eddie and did not want to give him a dear Eddie (John) letter. But that is not the case for he has to leave Chicago and travel to New Jersey where the family name is known and that brings in more characters into the story along with the ones from Chicago and everyone is looking for her or a bottle of wine. This is a very good story with many different players and no one is actually helping Jules. He must put it all together. A very entertaining book. Really enjoyed the read. I got this book from netgalley.  I give this 4 stars.

FIELD MARSHALL: The Life and Death of Erwin Rommel

FIELD MARSHALL                           DANIEL ALLEN BUTLER

Field Marshal: The Life and Death of Erwin RommelErwin Rommel was a complex man: a born leader, brilliant soldier, a devoted husband and proud father; intelligent, instinctive, brave, compassionate, vain, egotistical, and arrogant. In France in 1940, then for two years in North Africa, then finally back in France again, at Normandy in 1944, he proved himself a master of armored warfare, running rings around a succession of Allied generals who never got his measure and could only resort to overwhelming numbers to bring about his defeat.

And yet for all his military genius, Rommel was also naive, a man who could admire Adolf Hitler at the same time that he despised the Nazis, dazzled by a Führer whose successes blinded him to the true nature of the Third Reich. Above all, he was the quintessential German patriot, who ultimately would refuse to abandon his moral compass, so that on one pivotal day in June 1944 he came to understand that he had mistakenly served an evil man and evil cause. He would still fight for Germany even as he abandoned his oath of allegiance to the Führer, when he came to realize that Hitler had morphed into nothing more than an agent of death and destruction. In the end Erwin Rommel was forced to die by his own hand, not because, as some would claim, he had dabbled in a tyrannical conspiracy, but because he had committed a far greater crime – he dared to tell Adolf Hitler the truth.

In Field Marshal historian Daniel Allen Butler not only describes the swirling, innovative campaigns in which Rommel won his military reputation, but assesses the temper of the man who finally fought only for his country, and no dark depths beyond.

HUBBY'S REVIEW:
This was a fascinating book about the only German General that both the British and the U.S. tired to assonant. That is how much they did not want to up against him. His tactics were learned in World War one as an officer in the Wurttembergische Gerber's battalion. In one of his last actions in WWI his unit in 52 hour of continuous operations covered a horizontal distance of 18 miles and a vertical equivalent of another 2 miles much under enemy fire. In rapid succession they took one enemy village, four mountain summits positions, and captured almost nine thousand enemy soldiers. He would also remember the name of the nine men that he lost plus the thirty that were wounded. He led from the front and for these reason his men would follow him anywhere. He would also look over the terrain and come up with the best way to attack instead of going straight into a hail of fire. He put his men lives on equal grounds as his own when during the war most were leading from the rear and caring if their men died or not. He would use these same tactics during WWII. Though he was not expecting another war. The author goes into how Hitler came into power and how Rommel became his favorite soldier. He goes into his romance and marriage to his wife and their life together and also how she raised his daughter from another women prior to their marriage. She stayed with them until his death. The author also goes into what made him take his life and how you wonder what would have happened to him and Germany if he would have lived. This was a book filled with a lot of information and a lot of it I don’t remember reading about in one other bio of his. A very good book. I got this book from netgalley.  I give this 5 stars.

THE SCAM (Fox & O'Hare #4)

THE SCAM                                          JANET EVANOVICH & LEE GOLDBERG

The Scam (Fox and O'Hare, #4)Nicolas Fox is a charming con man and master thief on the run. Kate O’Hare is the FBI agent who is hot on his trail. At least that’s what everyone thinks. In reality, Fox and O’Hare are secretly working together to bring down super-criminals the law can’t touch. Criminals like brutal casino magnate Evan Trace.

Evan Trace is running a money-laundering operation through his casino in Macau. Some of his best customers are mobsters, dictators, and global terrorists. Nick and Kate will have to go deep undercover as high-stakes gamblers, wagering millions of dollars—and their lives—in an attempt to topple Trace’s empire.

It’s a scam that will take Fox and O’Hare from the Las Vegas strip, to the sun-soaked beaches of Oahu’s North Shore, and into the dark back alleys of Macau. Their only backup—a self-absorbed actor, a Somali pirate, and Kate’s father, and an ex-soldier who believes a rocket launcher is the best way to solve every problem. What could possibly go wrong?

HUBBY'S REVIEW:
Nicholas Fox and FBI agent Kate O Hare, are back chasing criminals that don’t know they are being set up. This time they are after a money launder who works out of Vegas and Macau. Once they put the hook in they once again go and get the cast of characters that help them put everything together. Before that they go to Hawaii to find Kate’s father who is playing in jungle against a crime lord from the island and some of his men. The crime lord was trying to hurt one of his ex-military buddies so once Kate finds him and gets him off the island and makes sure his friend is okay they can get back to work. Her father at times makes this story, but so do all of the characters. This book flows better for me than the last book and though they finally kiss and actually spend a night alone together which I know I have been waiting for. The ending sets you up for the next book and now finally I have something to look forward to from this series. This book has the fun bantering and you can get into the con but it is more Kate and Nick and their team. Which for me works better. Like I said also the added more parts with her father’s character I think helps this story as well. A very good book. I got this book from netgalley.  I give the 5 stars.

Off the ice Luc doesn't do games, but this new Rose makes him feel like playing a little dirty. If he's really got a shot at her heart then he's not just playing to win. He's playing for keeps.

HUBBY'S REVIEW:
Luc Richard, is home for the time being in Silver Bay Maine. There for a couple of reasons besides a weeding he is in and trying to stay out of the public eye especially now that he has broken up with his supper model girlfriend. Now he focus on hockey once again he hopes until he sees Rose Caplan, who has always liked Luc but he kooks at he as a sister, even though they grew up together he still calls her little Rose. Now graduated from college and going to be 22 she wants him to look at her as a women. So she has to step up her game at the same time that he has sworn off women in order to get focused just for hockey and making a run at the cup. She stops wearing close that hide her body and it starts when they decide to go to the lake and she wears or is barely wearing a bikini and it is driving him crazy. The day at her job when some college guys flirt with her that pisses him off as well. But the real kicker is when he runs into her at a different bar and there are different guys wanting to dance with her and one in particular she figures why not until he shows up and gets rid of him. Deciding he wants her and she wants him they decide to see each other but quietly. This works for a while until the charity event that she had been helping him is about to begin and he does not want them together for fear of photos and because of one photo got out and the team is now trying to trade him. She does not talk to him for days and shows up at the event and when he does not stop one of his hockey buddies from flirting with her she gets upset and leaves. Telling him she can’t do this anymore. That night he leaves her a message on her phone but her phone was off. Hearing it in the morning she races over to his house to find him in bed with another girl. Heart broken she takes off and does not speak to him for weeks. The problem for him is that all of their friends and family are the same so he is on the outs all around. This is a very emotional story with many different topics. Like her first book you wonder if they can get back together or not. Not going to say read the book. You do not need to read the first book to be caught up though that is a good story as well. I got this book from netgalley.  I give this 5 stars.

But beneath Valerie's cool cover, Jason feels a smoldering desire that lights his own. And this is one inferno he'll definitely want to stoke . . .

HUBBY'S REVIEW:
Valerie Wainwright works for one of the top PR firms in Washington D.C. and now she has been hired to fix the bad press of an internet video of a group of sorority girls that were taking a tour of the station and when one firefighter named Jason Moore came out of the shower with only a towel on the girls decided to do a girls gone wild video. Before they could usher the girls out of the station the video went crazy with downloads but as the story goes along Jason is not the bad guy. Valerie takes the job and one reason is Jason, she likes the video of him and when she meets in person for the first time she is more impressed plus he is sitting right in front. He is attracted to her as well but she is not going to do anything because of her job. Plus she has physical scars that make herself conscious. After her second meeting with the firefighters at the station she and Jason do a working dinner but she finds herself talking to him easily after getting back to his truck he ends up kissing her and she was not expecting to like it as much as she did. Not knowing how to respond they don’t talk for a few days until a school function he is doing. It is after this that she finds out that he has a form of dysgraphia and he always felt less than when he had to write something or read out loud, mainly because of a teacher when he was younger. She helps him and as they start to spend more time together she still will not open up to him about her scars. When he gets hurt on the job she runs. Now her life is out of sorts because she quits her job also. She is trying to come up with a way to get him back but can’t think of anything. I won’t tell you the end but this is a good book with a lot of passion and both lead characters are overcoming fears and insecurities which they realize it is easier to face with someone than alone. A very good book. i got this book from netgalley.  I give this 4 stars.

SLATE (Breaking the Declan Brothers, #2)"Some boys will keep it, some will break it, and some boys, they just won't want it. You gotta be careful who you give your heart to..." Slate Declan

First loves, we all got them. Mine is Slate Declan. He was kind, gentle, and caring. Still, he managed to break my heart. So I put miles between us, and eventually, my heart healed.
I haven’t seen Slate in years, but a couple friends and I are going back to the Bayou for the summer. While I’m visiting my hometown, I’m going to look up Slate Declan. And I plan to break his heart, just as he did mine. I'll remind him of what he has lost, and then I'll prove to him that I’ve moved on.
It should be real easy, right?
Well, let me tell you, Slate Declan is not the same guy that I left behind. And there’s another problem. How do you break someone’s heart when they no longer have one?

HUBBY'S REVIEW:
This book starts where the first book ends. Slate in the ring seeing Rayna looking at him and a tear just coming out of the corner of her eye. He was hoping she would never come back into town and now she could not see him like this. She was not sad because of the scars he had or the fighting it was because of the gleam that he had in his eyes from the first day in second grade when he was the new kid. He still had the look of life, a spark, and now it was not there. Going back home to back the one heart of the person that broke her heart. She now finds herself wanting to help him and by doing so you get to look back on their life from second to them dating and her thinking that they were going to be married. But one morning that all changed. But as she works on him he decides he wants her back in his life as well and decides he needs to stop feeling sorry for himself and become the man he knows he can. Some of the scenes between them are explicit but it is done in a tasteful way and it adds to the story because the passion and intense love they have for each other is expressed. Though this all they both realize that they can be honest with each other and he is still helping her deal with her past from when she was 13. It is the history they have and the story they share that you want them to get back together and make it work. Read the book to find out. a great book. I got this book from netgalley.  I give this 5 stars.

JAX (BREAKING THE DECLAN BROTHERS #1)

JAX (BREAKING THE DECLAN BROTHERS #1)     KELLY GENDRON

Jax (Breaking the Declan Brothers, #1)“Some boys can get rough, some don’t always listen when you tell them to stop, and some boys, they’re just monsters. You gotta be careful who you play with…” ~ Jax Declan

I’m a tease, always have been. In my teens, Jax Declan tried to warn me about staying away from the bad boys. The only boy I ever wanted was Jax. But, no matter how much I tried to play with him, he rejected me.

I haven’t seen Jax Declan in years. A couple friends and I are going back to the Bayou for the summer. A little older now, and a bit wiser, I’ve decided that I’m going to find my teenage crush and I’m going to break him. This summer Jax Declan will play with me.

But the closer I get and the more I learn about the reserved, discreet, and sexy Jax Declan. Well, I’m starting to think that Jax Declan might just be one of those bad boys he tried to warn me about all those years ago.

HUBBY'S REVIEW:
Three girlfriends decide to spend their summer vacation in two of the girls’ home town where they spent most of their years. Rayna says they can use her sister's’ house which was the house she grew up in. she is also out of work right now and is going to look for a job down there. They live in Manhattan and will be going to Texas. Emmie who has had a crush on Jax Declan wants to find out what really is going on with him and if there is any hope of them hooking up. The third friend is Lurlene and being a teacher she goes along with them since she is off for the summer as well. Once they get there they find out that the three Declan brothers own a bar now and they find out that they all do MMA fighting. There first night in the bar Jax ends up surprising Emmie by fighting and they begin a back and forth bantering before they make it physical once they do they cannot get enough of one another and she finds out that wanted to be with her since high school but had to wait until she turned 18 and by then there grandmother passed away and he had to take over raising his two brothers. A good book for the beginning of the series and getting to know the characters. I got this book from netgalley.  I give this 4 stars.

BEHIND THE BADGE

BEHIND THE BADGE                                 MICHAEL COVER

Behind the Badge: A Policeman's LegacyIf you think you know what life is like for a police officer, think again.

Drawn from twenty-four years of experience working for a Southern California police department, Behind the Badge: A Policeman’s Legacy is a window into the true-life drama of life in the ranks of one of the country’s most dangerous jobs. No longer the realm of Mayberry R.F.D., but not yet the world of Blade Runner, this is the story of real men and women doing real jobs at the start of the twenty-first century.

Attempting to break through the stereotypes we’ve all been inundated by over the years, Cover shows us what really goes on when an officer is taking care of day-to-day business. Battling armed criminals, dogs, bureaucracy, and sometimes even public opinion, the job was seldom easy, but the duty was always important.

HUBBY'S REVIEW:
This is a good book with true stories about cases that he worked on over 24 years. From the very first through the end and how he started as a patrolman and worked his way up. You get a real sense of what it is like being a police officer and all of the good and bad or difficulties that go with the job. You also get a feel of how the job changed over the years due to new rules they had to follow as well. I think I liked the beginning the most because he takes you back to the application, background check, different interviews, seeing the same people then those people are no longer there. You are left with only a handful and then it is off to the academy. Doing push-ups because your cuff case was not fasten, or some other reason. Thinking this is foolish but knowing that in the end those little things are important when you are chasing someone and your cuffs, of some other piece of equipment falls out for not being secured. He takes you through the fun part, pepper spray and gas. I say fun because that is the only way to look at it because some day you will be again in that same situation where you will get sprayed and it could be by your partner, and your mind somehow takes you back to that moment and you don’t panic. At the time though you don’t know that, that there is a reason for everything they made you go through. Let me tell you when he speaks of CN and CS they are not very nice but you need to know what they are like in case your mask gets pulled off or you don’t have time to mask up, pray the wind is blowing the direction. Most of his other stories took me back to stories I had, but I think for anyone wanting to get into the field of law enforcement this would be a excellent book. Thank for your years of service. I got this book from netgalley.   I give this 5 stars.

SUGAR'S TWICE AS SWEET

SUGAR'S TWICE AS SWEET                         MARINA ADAIR

Sugar's Twice as Sweet (Sugar, Georgia, #1)
He's trouble she doesn't need . . .

Thanks to a cheating fiancé, Josephina Harrington's perfect life just crashed and burned. Moving in with her overbearing parents is definitely not an option. No, she needs to prove she can make it on her own. And she will-by turning her great-aunt's old plantation house into a destination getaway. She's just not expecting her contractor to be so hands-on-and so totally irresistible.

. . . but everything she wants

Bad-boy golf champion Brett McGraw figured his hometown of Sugar, Georgia was the perfect place to lay low and get his life back up to par. The leggy blonde with a pint-sized pup is the kind of sweet 'n sassy trouble he never saw coming. She doesn't know a nut from a bolt and before long, he's renovating her house . . . as she steals his heart. Can he convince Josephina that his womanizing ways are in the past and he's ready for forever?

HUBBY'S REVIEW:
Josephina after being embarrassed but really wanting to make her marriage more exciting leaves the plane that they were on and as she pulls herself together she is also dealing with the affair that her husband has been having with his assistant. Her mother thinks that what she is doing is wrong and so does her father, but no one is giving any support with her feelings. She finds out that her parents knew that the husband was going to ask for a divorce before her. Feeling her life is out of control she decides to go to Sugar Georgia where she has happy memories of spending time with her great aunt. Her idea is to fix up her place and turn it into a 5 star hotel with boating, fishing and an excellent kitchen because that is her specialty. She meets Brett McGraw on her way to the house and they take an instant liking to one another. She also has a cousin and some friends in town that help her and give her support. These people do more for than anyone else that are supposed to be part of her family. Though at times the older ladies with the guns and their hi-jinks are funny after a while for me I took this as just people being mean and trying to hold onto the past. It felt like as much as she was helping the community and then Brett with a fund raiser all they wanted to do was make her life more difficult. Not really any southern charm, or hospitality until the end of the book. The younger people were friendly than the older friends of her aunt. That really was difficult for me but I did like the story between her and Brett and how they worked with each other to help the other one get through their past so they could work on being together. She also stood up to her ex which was good. A good book. I got this book from netgalley.  I give this 4 stars.
