MAIL ORDER DOCTOR                       CYNTHIA WOOLF

Librarian Note: Alternate Cover Edition for ASIN: B00ZJRFEIC

Julia O’Brien is a practical woman. A nurse and midwife, she was perhaps the most surprised when she fell in love with Dr. Matthew Reynolds and agreed to be his mail order bride. She sets off for Tombstone carrying his letters and a heart full of hope.

Dr. Matthew Reynolds didn’t want a wife, and is shocked when Julia arrives on his door step with a marriage license bearing his signature. He discovers that his grandfather has wooed the young woman without his knowledge, and made promises in his name without permission. An annulment seems to be the easy answer, but Julia has nowhere to go. Now, his unwanted wife is sleeping in his house, working with him at his clinic, and generally driving him to distraction.

When a call comes in from a desperate young mother, Julia handles the call alone. The young woman gives birth to a beautiful baby girl, but does not survive childbirth. Suddenly, Matthew is faced with a new choice, not only does he have a beautiful and caring wife, but a precious new daughter to fill his empty life. But Julia is not willing to accept less than his whole heart, and when the young infant’s father attempts to steal her away, Matthew will have to move heaven and earth to convince the woman he has grown to love that he can be what she needs.

MY REVIEW:
How many of you have someone who loves you say, “I did it for your own good.”  When in reality you’re thinking no you did it for yours.  Yet, in some cases it can ring true especially if you are the type of person who could not get out of his own way due to fear.  Enter Dr. Matthew Reynolds.  So Walt his grandfather, who raised him and his 3 brothers, decided to take matters into his own hands.
Turns out Walt was acting on Matt’s behalf by getting and marrying by proxy a woman from New York, Julia O’Brien.  She was the closes thing to perfect for Matt.  As they wrote each other back and forth over 6 months he found out that not only did she want to be married and have children which to Walt was important, but she was a nurse and midwife.  So she wanted to help Matt out at the office plus start her own clinic for women.  Not to mention over the course of the 6 months she had fallen in love already.
Well, wasn’t she in for a surprise?  For when she arrived no one was there to meet her.  Then since she had taken the coach with Ben a wealthy businessman and friend of Matt’s she asked his assistance.  When Walt all of a sudden showed up saying Matt was out on a call and he would be taking her to his home for him to help get her settled.  He takes her to the house/clinic where after unpacking she falls asleep.  When Matt comes home to find her asleep on his bed late at night he is not happy.  Matt is pissed at Walt and feels cornered like an animal.
She explains the whole story as she knows it.  He says he will get it annulled and she says fine but that he will have to pay to have her stay at the hotel until she finds a job and housing that she can afford once she finds a job.  He is not too happy about that for it can get expensive she says not her problem he signed he pays not her problem he didn’t read what he signed.  She says or you can rent me the spare bedroom, I see patients, and help at the office organizing you and get 25% or your pay.  That’s how they started negotiations to see if he would like her and keep her.
At some point I found myself saying, “Enough Matt Out!” Then Julia was just sassy enough as a character to get me to keep reading.  Other than that…I give this 4 stars.  Provided by netgalley.com.  Follow us at: www.1rad-readerreviews.com.

MARRIAGE UNDER FIRE

MARRIAGE UNDER FIRE                    JACKI DELECKI

Marine veteran Maddy Jeffers never expected her most demanding and daunting mission would come off the battlefield. Ordered to infiltrate a Seattle terrorist cell, Maddy must pose as a loving wife to Major Hunter Hines. The undercover role begins to feel all too real when Maddy falls hard for the rugged, macho Marine.

Duty and discipline are Hunter Hines’s credo, guiding every decision and every action. But constant proximity with the fierce and enticing Maddy is veering his mission wildly off course. Although their role as man and wife is only pretend, there is nothing false about his out-of-control desire for his partner.

When Maddy’s life is threatened by an ISIS cell, protecting her becomes the only mission that matters, and Hunter is willing to break all the rules to save her. As the danger heats up around these two veteran heroes, Maddy and Hunter must walk a narrow path between passion and survival.

MY REVIEW:
For such a short story it carries a large impact.  There are actually two stories in one with the two main characters in both.  The first part “Marriage Under Fire” is with undercover agents from the USMC Maddy Jeffers and Hunter Hines going under as husband and wife.
This makes them both a bit uncomfortable since they know each other through Hunter’s sister Angie who is Maddy’s best friend.  Not to mention Hunter outranks her so she has to act a certain way.  It’s more like a sexual tension not to mention Angie and she like to tease him.  He is a man with mommy issues so it makes it easier.
You see his mom took off on him and his Marine dad when he was ten years old for another Marine.  So he had major trust, loyalty, and faith issues.  So, when his dad married Angie’s mom and had her there was confusion for sure.  For his dad had always bashed his mom and all women.  Angie’s mom was older and settled in her was so it could have been a factor that he felt that she wouldn’t be out looking for men.
Maddy had her own trust issues she was a foster child raised in the system.  She lost her parents at a young age and bounced around a lot.  She joined the Marines to have a sense of belonging, family, and she knew she would never be left behind.
Once she met Angie she was the sister she never had a real connection.  Then when Angie, after a long separation, and Hunter came looking for her and found her along with Maddy, a twofer.  He read up on Maddy and was totally impressed at her character.  Especially, from the background she came from.  She is tiny but mighty in dedication to be a good Marine like he and his sister.
Can these two work together with all sexual tension masked as anger that bounces off of them?  Or will it get in the way and cause them to lose focus putting the operation in jeopardy?  I will not tell about the second part for it will take away from part one.  Which is really funny.  But combined I give the book overall a 5 star.  Provided by netgalley.com.  Follow us at:

TEXAS LULLABY

TEXAS LULLABY                             CYNTHIA D'ALBA
When Fate tosses you in the deep end, it’s time to sink or swim.
Texas Montgomery Mavericks, Book 7
Lydia Henson’s four-year-long engagement to Jason Montgomery is about to end in a Texas wedding everyone is anticipating. She’s come to accept Jason doesn’t want children. She can live without children. She can’t live without the man she loves.
Jason has never wanted a family. At least, that’s his story and he’s sticking to it. The falsehood is less emasculating than the truth. Yet when tragedy on the eve of their wedding lands Lydia with her sister’s children to raise, Jason finds himself surprisingly calm in the midst of the chaos.
Everything he swore he didn’t want seems as natural as breathing. But just as he gathers the courage to grab for the golden ring, another unexpected twist threatens to tarnish what could have been a shining future.

MY REVIEW:
The love and emotion that the author is trying to convey to the reader comes through on the onset of reading this book.  Your emotions are peaked and the roller coaster is an endless peak and valley, of love and sadness right off.  So be prepared for a few tears.
When Dr. Lydia Henson was a resident she was working at the hospital where Jason Montgomery was brought in after a car accident.  Although he recovered from the accident something happened to that 20 year old Jason that would affect him the rest of his life.  Causing him to never ever want children.  So any girl he would marry would have to understand that or keep moving.
He had dated several different girls all thinking they would be the ones to make him change his mind, not true.  Every time he thought about settling down, Dr. Lydia was the one who came to mind.  So he pursued her until she said yes.  Ten years ago they met she was the attending doctor on call.  They had met and then one day they got on the subject of kids he got upset so did she and she walked away from the relationship.  They were at a stalemate.  She wanting kids him not.  But love won out.  The got back together she loved him too much to lose him.  She wanted Jason more than children she didn’t know.
Fast forward ten years to their rehearsal dinner on the night before their wedding.  Her sister and husband die and she gets her sister’s three children.  In a blink of an eye their lives change.  Jason jumps right in and starts helping with all three of the kids and he is wonderful with them.  Never questioning a thing or make a bad remark or anything.  He is a champ.  He never stops wanting Lydia and lets her know it.  Jason finds emotions for these three children in the face of this emergency.  Lydia is facing that he never knew he had.  It blows him away.  Could it be he can’t stuff emotions well after all?  Can she marry this man she now puts on hold due to the accident?  He never wanted children.  He never minced words about that fact.  She loves him enough to let him go.  But can she?  I give this 5 stars.  Provided by netgalley.com.  Follow us at:

SUDDENLY IN LOVE (LAKE HAVEN #1)

SUDDENLY IN LOVE                             JULIA LONDON

Mia Lassiter is thrilled to finally put her artistic skills to use working for her aunt’s interior design shop in her hometown of East Beach. While renovating an old mansion overlooking stunning Lake Haven, she encounters a scruffy but attractive man named Brennan—the owner’s son. She doesn’t realize this sexy recluse is actually Everett Alden, the world-famous rock star in hiding who’s nursing his own artistic and personal crises.

As their personalities clash, tension simmers between the struggling artist and jaded musician, and their time spent alone together in the gorgeous old house only serves to turn up the heat. Soon, Mia and Brennan’s creative passions boil over to inspire passions of another kind…

But reality comes crashing in when Mia’s celeb-obsessed cousin discovers Brennan’s true identity—and reveals it to the world. As paparazzi swarm the mansion, Brennan is thrust back into his rock star lifestyle. Will Mia lose her soul mate just when she’s finally found him? Can their love survive the glaring spotlight?

MY REVIEW:

“Poor little rich kid.”  A phrase I remember hearing one time that just stuck with me.  When I heard someone say it to their kid I thought, how can that be? But as I have gotten older I get it.  Everett Alden (Brennan) fits it to a tee.  The mouse has been chasing his tail so long and listening to everyone else on how to get the American Dream and all that money means that he missed the ride there.
You see Brennan started their home band in his friend’s garage.  Chance and Trey were his buddies at 14 and they all three started Tuesday’s End together.  After almost 20 years things were spinning out of control for all of them.  Chance and Brennan were fighting over creative differences and Trey got heavy into heroin to the point where they couldn’t rely on him.  He had just been released from his third time at a treatment center when he overdosed or committed suicide who knows either way he was missed.
Brennan is the one out of control now or at least feeling that way.  Staying with his mother or should I say hiding out at his mother’s for a month now.  To the point where his mom is concerned all he is doing is drinking and sleeping and asking him to go into treatment.  He wants just time to heal with some peace and quiet but mom is a little eccentric so that won’t be happening anytime soon.  Mainly to be left alone.
Then there’s the other person that is now irritating Brennan beside his mother.  Mia Lassiter.  Not only is she bossy as all get out, but she is trespassing on the property, but worst of all she has curves for days.  Since he has given up all the evils of women and all that they bring he needs her removed.  Which will be a little hard since she works for her Aunt Bev’s design shop that his mother Nancy just hired.  He is now one pissed off celeb.  That’s another thing he’s not sure she doesn’t know his true identity.
Mia is not in her dream job at all.  After all she is an artist, she has an art degree to prove it.  Just not the talent to go with it.  So she has been told not once but several times to do something else.  Good techniques but no passion.  It has broken he heart and her spirit.  She has always been made fun of and told that she is different for the way she has chosen to dress and act.  She has her own sense of style not like everyone else and she likes to sew her own things.  Unique.
Like Brennan she has fallen into bad luck.  She lost her lackluster job at the textile job she had.  Her average, regular sex boyfriend left her, and she was overdrawn on her bank account so she lost her apartment and car.  So, now she is a gofer for her aunt and she gets to live back at home.  Yay!
This encounter with Mia drives Brennan crazy because each time after the first sees him in a new position in bed with her.  Since he swore off women that does not make him happy.  Not to mention his mother not understanding his need, no requirement, for solitude.  To get his crap together.  All Mia sees is a lazy, no good, alcoholic living with his mommy.  “A poor little rich kid.”  Or does she?

Because what happens when you have found your carbon copy of you?  Yet, they are trying to hide from the world to be that square peg in the round hole?  What happens when the world catches up?  Can they figure it out?   I really enjoyed this story.  The characters have many layers and are so funny yet there is an underlying depth to each of them also.  This was provided by netgalley.com.  I give this 5++++ stars.  Follow us at:  www.1rad-readerreviews.com.

HIDDEN HEAT (BROTHERS OF MAYHEM #1)

HIDDEN HEAT                                        CARLA SWAFFORD

Sizzling with passion and suspense, perfect for fans of Joanna Wylde and Julie Ann Walker, the Brothers of Mayhem series revs up as a headstrong beauty faces off against an outlaw motorcycle club—and falls for the bad boy she never saw coming.

Cassidy Ryder refuses to be intimidated by anyone, even the hell-raising, hard-drinking Brothers of Mayhem. The daughter of their former president, she's not above smashing a few heads to keep her teenage brother safe. But when Cassidy's big mouth gets her in trouble, the only thing that saves her is some quick thinking from the Brothers' bartender. He's commanding and strong, and as smooth as the whiskey he pours: the ultimate temptation for a girl who swore she'd never be a biker's plaything.

But Thorn Savalas is no ordinary biker. He's a cop, and he's worked too hard earning the Brothers' trust to blow his cover over a female—even one who rocks a pair of jeans like Cassidy. The only way to protect her is by claiming she's his old lady. Trouble is, Thorn can't just pretend. He wants Cassidy, and every scorching touch tells him she feels the same. But acting on their hottest fantasies could leave them both exposed . . . even if nothing else has ever felt so real.

HUBBY'S REVIEW:
Cassidy Ryder does not take crap from anyone that includes the men from her father motorcycle club Brothers of Mayhem. With her father in prison for killing her mother. Now she is trying to save her brother from joining the club, but she is getting nowhere. She is doing a good job at destroying the bar and new president is tired of it. A new guy named Thorn ends up pulling her out and they become a couple because if not he feels she will get killed after much uglier things are done to her first. As he is trying to protect her she is falling for the guy, he is noticing how strong she is and is starting to become more attracted to her. She feels that there is something off with Thorn. He does not treat her like men should treat women from the club, like dirt. The more you get into the story you see how they are drawn to each other and the more he finds out about her life the more he is falling in love with her. When you get towards the end of the book that is when everything starts to close up. The story lines that is. This is a good book with some twist at the end that make for a good story. I got this book from netgalley. I gave this book 4 stars. Follow us at www.1rad-readerreviews.com

DreamMakers
All Fired Up (Parker & Lynn)
Love Is A Battlefield (Jack & Pepper)
Don't Walk Away (Dean & Emma)

HUBBY'S REVIEW:
Jack works with his friends and they started DreamMakers. After a party they put on he goes back to their building at night to find a light on and someone in an office. Being a former Army Ranger he is armed and when he goes in he is surprised to find Pepper, who is Parker's sister and is also a co- owner. He has known Pepper for years but now she is a women and not a girl like the last time he saw her. She needs a place to stay and he takes her to his place and she is still attracted to him but he won’t do anything because he is his friends little sister. But he takes her to his home and there was already an attraction between them she turns the tables on the Ranger and goes on attack and he cannot resist. What should be fun for the both of them becomes more because they help each other. The problem is he does not think he is worthy of a lifelong relationship and she must she him he is. There are some adult sexual scenes in this book plus a three some. I will say it was all done in taste and actually went along with the story. By the time you get to the end you are hoping Jack can work past his issues, but you still don’t know. This is a good book. I got this book from netgalley. I gave this book 4 stars. PSALMS FOR EVERYONE, PART 2

PSALMS FOR EVERYONE, PART 2           JOHN GOLDINGAY

Westminster John Knox Press is pleased to present the seventeen-volume Old Testament for Everyone series. Internationally respected Old Testament scholar John Goldingay addresses Scripture from Genesis to Malachi in such a way that even the most challenging passages are explained simply and concisely. The series is perfect for daily devotions, group study, or personal visits with the Bible. In this volume, Goldingay explores Psalms 73-15. The psalms, Goldingay says, show us four ways to speak to God: in words of praise, thanksgiving, trust, and supplication. Goldingay provides brief commentary on each psalm and shows how each one can be relevant to contemporary life.

HUBBY'S REVIEW:
This is a very good look and in depth help with the study of the book of Psalms. I found this to be very helpful in my study of the bible and the work that went into the commentary and breaking down the translations and showing you how they can be used into your own life was very useful for me and I am sure took a lot of time to do. This is also good for study groups and for leaders as well. A good book. I got this book from netgalley. I gave this book 4 stars. Follow us at www.1rad-readerreviews.com

CHRISTMAS IN JULY

CHRISTMAS IN JULY                              DEBBIE MASON

Grace Flaherty had given up hope of ever seeing her husband again. After all, it'd been over a year since he went missing in combat. So when he strides through the door of her bakery in downtown Christmas one sunny afternoon, she can hardly believe her eyes. But her happily-ever-after is going to take some effort - because Jack has no memory of his family.

All Jack Flaherty remembers about Christmas is that he couldn't wait to leave town. Now he's a local hero with a wife and son he doesn't know. Even as he struggles to rekindle the romance with his wife, he knows in his heart what he wants: a second chance at love.

HUBBY'S REVIEW:
Grace Flaherty is trying to move on with her life, but the town she lives in Christmas Colorado won’t let her. Her husband has been missing for 17 months along with the rest of his black hawk crew and she feels it is time that she comes to realize that he is not coming home. This for the sake of her and for her son Jack Jr. just when she thinks she is free to move on she hears that they have been rescued. Jack is happy to be back in the states but has lost the last four years of his memory and now does not recognize his wife. His sister shows him pictures of them being married and now he must work on the memory part. This part of the book is good because they are once again working on what made them a couple and why they feel in love with each other to begin with. Also Grace has more strength because of all she has gone through and so does Jack. A good story. I got this book from netgalley. I gave this book 4 stars.

MEN'S HEALTH PUSH, PULL, SWING

MEN'S HEALTH PUSH, PULL, SWING         MYATT MURPHY, MEN'S HEALTH

No piece of exercise equipment is more convenient, reliable, versatile and effective at building lean muscle and boosting post-workout metabolic rate than the venerable dumbbell and its cousins the kettlebell and sandbag. Together, these are the tools that will reshape the way we think about fitness and this book will stand as the definitive guide to targeting the key muscles that men and women want to develop and tone.

The beauty of these tools is that they are simple, inexpensive, and can be used in a small space so readers can exercise in the convenience of their homes. Most important is that they allow the freedom to use a full range of motion, unlike the rigid, limiting structure of weight machines. No longer restrained by the typical up/down motion of barbells and machines, readers can become strong in any direction. And sanctioned by Men's Health, this book demonstrates with large color photos more than 150 strength exercises that incorporate the three key movements—pushing, pulling, and swinging—that make up the perfect full-range-of-motion workout. Because it emphasizes building functional strength for real-world application and total-body fitness Men's Health Push, Pull, Swing by Myatt Murphy, CSCS will appeal to beginners as well as fitness buffs, especially those who enjoy CrossFit style workouts.

HUBBY'S REVIEW:
I found this to be a very useful book. It goes through Technics for the use of dumbbells, kettle-bells, pull machine, sand bags, and many other pieces of training equipment. Not just on how to use them or exercises, but also how your muscles react to the different movements. There are guides and pictures of the human body and muscle groups to explain the author’s points. I found this book to be far more helpful and had more information than the books I used to use about weight lifting. I got this book from netgalley.  I gave this book 4 stars.  Follow us at www.1rad-readerreviews.com

HUBBY'S REVIEW:

This is a funny story at times about a man Blake Donovan, handsome, tall, and rich, but feels it is time to find a wife. He does what most people do he hires someone to interview women and set up dates that would be his idea of a perfect women, from who knows what decade he was thinking. Now you have Andrea Dawson who is looking for a job and her sister sent in her resume for this one. She goes on the interview and he wants to hire her but she does not want to work for him. A few days later and still no other job offers she goes back to see if she can still have the position. He agrees and lo and behold they begin to irate one another. This only lasts for a while as he realizes that he is thinking about her more and he wants to spend more time with her even though she does not fit into the list that he created. She also finds herself falling for him because she is getting to find out about the real Blake that he hides from everyone because he does not want people to think of him as a nerd. He is a cool nerd in her mind. Now when he decides to be with her she is gone and he is lost because he has never had to find a girl or woman and mostly never has had to win her back. A very funny book. I got this book from netgalley.  I give this 3 stars.  Follow us at www.1rad-readerreviews.com
