JAGGER: (Caldwell Brothers #3)

JAGGER                        MJ FIELD, CHELSEA CAMARON

Full of swagger and sensuality, the Caldwell Brothers series—perfect for fans of Katy Evans and Emma Chase—packs an emotional punch as the last bachelor standing fights for a woman who’s worth every ounce of trouble.

Jagger Caldwell is no one’s hero. With a reputation busting heads and breaking hearts on the underground MMA circuit, he lives for easy cash and easier women. But when he stumbles upon an all-too-familiar scene, painful memories awaken Jagger’s sensitive side and compel him to act. As a kid, he stood by helplessly as his old man beat his mom. Now, Jagger won’t let seventeen-year-old Tatiana Rand suffer the same fate. Nothing matters except saving her.

Tatiana is a prisoner in her own home, at the mercy of her violent father—until an unlikely savior bursts through her door and into her life. Six-feet-plus of tattooed muscle and raw power, Jagger is no prince charming—but Tatiana stopped believing in fairy tales long ago. Despite their differences in age and, well, everything else, the sexy bad boy sparks a fire that Tatiana never knew she had—and desires that only Jagger can quench.

MY REVIEW:
What an amazingly heartwarming story told from the POV of two products of abuse.  Tatiana Rand 17, who is currently going through it by the hands of her Russian born and raised father who moved here to the United States.  He brought her here when she was a baby.  She was led to believe her mother never wanted her.  As her father became more disheartened with his own life he took it out on Totty.
Jagger Caldwell an underground MMA fighter rented an apartment next from her slumlord father even though he could afford a better place but his thought was always why pay more money for a place where he was just going to lay his head and use the restroom.  It just turned out that the landlord lived next door and most nights he got home so late from a growling workout getting ready for a fight or wasted from partying.   Most nights he could drown out what he was doing to his lady next door although he wanted to bust in and do something.  He knew it wasn’t his fight.  On this night he wasn’t able to do that.  He was in the wrong frame of mind to be hearing a female get knocked around.  He knew jail time was more than likely coming but not stepping in was not an option he had to do something.
After several minutes he couldn’t do it.  He broke in the door.  As he did he saw a small figure cowering in the corner of the hallway.  Her hair was all matted from blood, her eye is bruised and busted, and so is every place else.  When he sees a huge monster of a man ready to swing a belt at her again.  All he remembers is his anger going full force.
Jagger lunges at him knocking him to the ground.  Then punching repeatedly and seeing his blood spraying.  Once he knew he was out he gets up and goes to the young women.  Helps her up then sees how young she is.  He asks her age she says just turned 17.  He gives her his card and says if she ever needs help again to call him at any time that the number is to his family’s bar.  They will know how to contact him at all times.  Then says they need to call the cops.  When Totty’s dreams of leaving or being rescued are shattered.  She knows that since she is a minor they will send her to a home or worse back to Russia because that is what her father has been telling her over and over for years to keep her in line and under his thumb.  So she stays taking her chances with the beatings in hopes of making it to her 18th birthday.  She sends Jagger away since her dad is waking up.
When he wakes he wants to press charges.  You got it on Jagger.  They ask Totty about the abuse but she doesn’t talk for fear of her father and being sent into the system.  There is a restraining order against Jagger and now he doesn’t have a place to live.  He does but he doesn’t.  (With Shaw the gym owner that raised him better than his own father.)  Which made him become obsessed with Totty’s wellbeing.  So from afar she has become his favorite pass time.  After several months he starts getting small gifts to her via a neighbor.
In his head it was just carrying out the legacy his mother left behind to help those in need especially women who can’t take care of themselves when being abused.  His mother had died of ovarian cancer and since she had lived through abusive marriage he wanted her boys to be kinder and gentler men to their women.  Not knowing that each day was bringing him one day closer to love.
Loved this family saga a lot.  The brothers each had their issues but they loved each other but they really loved their women really good.  The characters are so down to earth and real.  You can feel their pain and their happiness as well.  You find yourself at times wanting to cheer and boo!  A tough subject done very well and very erotic well it comes to the loving so fans out ladies and gents but it is tasteful.  I give this 5++++ stars.  Provided by netgalley.com.  Follow us at:

JORDAN'S RETURN

JORDAN'S RETURN              SAMANTHA CHASE

A Time of Healing...near-fatal accident at the hands of her abusive ex-husband. Wanting only to spend time bonding with her two sons and come up with a direction for their future, Jordan's perfectly crafted plan is turned upside down when she runs in to Rob Tyler, the first man who ever broker her heart.

A Second Chance...

He was content with his life; at least that's what Rob had been telling himself until seeing Jordan again. Spending time with her and her boys has Rob re-evaluating his life. Making up for his past mistakes won't be easy, but the chance of having Jordan back in his life makes him want to try.

Will a summer together be enough to heal old wounds?

MY REVIEW:
Jordan Manning was 16 when she fell madly in love with Rob Tyler.  For two years they had the best high school romance even talking about their future together and dreams of a family.  That was all shattered when they were at a party separately and Jordan caught him making out with the biggest slut in the school.
She was so angry and hurt she had to learn to move on especially since he never bothered to come and try and explain why he even did what he did.  Unfortunately, when she looks at it now 13 years later she is still hurt and a little angry.  Yet, Eric had come along and was there to be the man who would be that guy for her.  Her prince charming.  But her ex who had been the all-American and class president was totally not what everyone thought he was.  Hell, not even what she knew he was before she married him.  He had her fooled too.  It wasn’t until after they married that he showed his true horrible colors.
Eric was controlling, abusive, and money hungry.  He was totally selfish to the point of being jealous of their own boys.  He didn’t want children he told her once she became pregnant he just wanted her to be a working professional.  Who didn't want to have to share her.  When the beatings started she couldn't believe she was that girl.  He even told her she ruined his plans for a bright wealthy future. From that moment on he planned his escape from his family.  To the point of how he could leave them the poorest.  If the courts would have allowed it he would have too.  But that didn’t work in his favor because do to his gloating and drinking with Jordan on last time he caused an injury accident so she sued him.  (Now mind you this was a joy ride she did not want to go on but he took a heavy hand to get her to go so she went.)  He is a big shot so he settled out of court and then out of the blue relinquished custody of their boys saying he never wanted them in the first place.  Another way to get out of paying for them.  Such a nice guy!
So, to finish recovering and get away with her boys all alone without family fussing over her like she has had due to her injuries for several months.  She takes them to a beach house in a small Virginia Beach town.  She rents a house for a month and even though the boys grumble they do as their mom asks.  Joe is 12 and Jake is 8, they are much older since the accident especially Joe, since he heard his so called father disclose his hatred toward wanting the boys in the first place and then of course the accident his mom was in because of his dad.  Poor kid had aged right before her eyes.
On their way to find the grocery store in the little town they stop to ask for directions and guess who it is?  You got it Rob!  Life since they last saw each other looks good on him.  He offers to show them by jumping in the car.  Since he called her by name the boys were not afraid of him just curious, so she explains he was a friend from high school.  Once they knew that they were all over him with questions about the area.  Even invited him to dinner which he shamefully accepted.
See how these two deal with the undealt with emotions from the past and move forward.  Or can they?  Is there enough true friendship left to find their way back to maybe become something to one another?  Can they even move through the past hurts with real truths and honest?  Will the boys get hurt again or are the adults too afraid to even take the first steps?
I really enjoyed the realism of the story.  The dynamics of the blended family emotions was so true.  The pains of a broken family and the ways of the adult to choose to live their lives can affect the child’s so badly.  The pains of parting and making up can become a drug of its own for the couple but when children are involved you have to put them first.  Sometimes to the extreme.  I think that was Jordan’s path at first out of protection not only for her heart but for her children that she was forgetting to allow them to live and be children.  Also for her to still be a woman and not just a mom.  I give this 5++++ stars.  Provided by netgalley.com.  Follow us at:

RUTHLESS: (True Brothers MC #1)

RUTHLESS                       GILLIAN ARCHER

Every girl needs a guardian angel—even if he wears black leather. In the first novel of her scintillating True Brothers MC series, Gillian Archer introduces readers to a sexy-as-sin biker . . . and the woman wild enough to tame him.

After dinner with the most arrogant man in the world, Jessica Miller is shocked when her blind date tries to maul her in the parking lot. Enter “Zag”: the brooding, bruising alpha male who jumps off his motorcycle and teaches the jerk a lesson he won’t forget. After getting one taste of a bad boy who lives on the edge, Jessica’s hooked. Zag’s willing to give her the ride of her life. But she needs to wrap her arms around his powerful chest and hold on—tight.

Zag knows firsthand that the True Brothers MC isn’t for the faint of heart. He only intends to show beautiful, innocent Jessica a few cheap thrills to satisfy her curiosity. But the more he lets her in, the more Zag comes to depend on her gentle touch to help heal the wounds that he’s been denying for so long. Now, a rival gang has set its sights on Jessica, and Zag must step up once again. He just hopes he can go the distance to protect the woman he loves.

HUBBY'S REVIEW:
This book starts off with Jessica Miller sitting through another one of her mother’s dates that she set up for her. Now after listening to this guy ramble on about himself, and drink two bottles of expensive wine which she had to pay for. The topper is the guy is expecting her to drive him home and when she says no he proceeds to start forcing himself on her. Screaming for help a big man saves her and just walks away. Not wanting to be rude she offers him a drink and though he tries to decline she is very persistent. His name is Zag and he is part of a motor cycle club. After the drink he takes her for a ride on his bike and she is surprised by where he lives. This begins a summer of hiding from her friends and family while she and Zag are having fun and she is becoming more into him by going to some of their parties. Zag cannot believe a girl like Jessica is wanting to be with him, and when she sees a drug deal go down with a rival club but one of their members is part of this makes him more concerned for her safety. The story goes along until one night when she is shot and at the same time he finds out that she is pregnant, and has to tell the doctor at the hospital in front of her parents which he has never met. This is a good story with a lot of emotion and dealing with each one needing to open up to the other. A good book. I got this book from netgalley. I gave it 4 stars. STRIP YOU BARE:(Deacons of Bourbon Street #4)

STRIP YOU BARE                 MAISEY YATES

Micah Carpenter hates New Orleans. Hell, after ten years he no longer has much affection for the Deacons of Bourbon Street motorcycle club, either. But when the brotherhood calls, Micah answers. Joining the hunt for their mentor’s killer, he crosses paths with a Southern belle who exudes class—and sex appeal. Micah knows better than to mess with ice princesses: No matter how hot things get, they never melt. And yet he can’t stop himself from offering her a taste of the wrong side of the tracks.

Sarah Delacroix understands that reputation is everything. The daughter of a prominent family rocked by scandal, she’s desperate to restore their good name. Micah’s exactly the kind of man she should be avoiding. Behind his sleek and sophisticated exterior beats the heart of a predator—and she knows it. But, like the tattoos beneath his tailored suit, his rough edges are irresistible. And all too soon Sarah finds him getting under her skin . . . and living out every one of her hottest fantasies.

HUBBY'S REVIEW:
This is book four in the series. Micah Carpenter is back and he has spent the last years away from Orleans leaving in San Francisco owing high class hotels. Not wanting to be back in Orleans, but where does he really want to be that is the real question. He is to look into and then take care of Sarah Delacroix, and their family mansion which somehow the Deacons now have the title to. She is looking into reviving the families old Christmas gala that was held there for many a year, but has not for some time. The place needs work and she takes over in hiring people to get the job done. Not leaving her side he then goes shopping with her and is amazed in how people responds to her and how they want to do the best for her or for the name. Questions still come up over the death of Preacher, and the paper work, but she does not want her grandfather questioned thinking that he is frail. The sex scenes between the two of them are hot and get hotter as book goes along. When the pieces of the story start to fall into place she has now found out some things about her family and is working at the Deacons bar. Micah wants to leave, but also wants to stay, and is confused in what to do. When the guys talk to him and now he has a decision leave and leave her or stay and have a family. The ending of the series is crazy and there were many twists that involved Preacher, the grandfather, and her father. This all happened the first night of Katrina when they were told to leave, but when you find the reasons it makes sense or at least answers the questions from the first book. Not only a good book but a good series. I got this book from netgalley. I gave it 5 stars. Follow us at www.1rad-readerreviews.com

HUBBY'S REVIEW:

Sophie Nichols has just transferred to a new police agency and the night before she has to report she goes to her half-brothers party at his place. While there she notices all different type of people but she really is not in the mood of being a cop this night. She knows that the man who is trying to pick her up is a biker but she is still attracted to him. After some verbal back and forth he tells her to go get him something to drink. She goes and gets the worst drink possible and with a smile hands it to him. She is disappointed when he gives her no reaction but as soon as she leaves he has to wash his mouth out. He is also impressed with her for no one stands up to him like that ever. He now wants more than ever when the party goes hay wire with shooting, yelling and screaming. In the aftermath her brother is gone. He is Ace Logan the sergeant in arms of the Rogue riders MC. Not knowing that now he was supposed to be looking out for her. She decided that a one night stand with a hot biker would not be so bad after a divorce, and her ex in prison for assault and attempted murder, her. The morning after their night together had him thinking that she was into dress up or roll playing, that is until he realized that she was not joking she was a cop. Her day gets worse when she finds out about all of the illegal activity that her brother was into and is still into. Now she is suspended upon investigation of herself. After not seeing or talking to Ace in a few days she decides to go to their club house and wait outside. When she is noticed and brought in by one of the bikers from the party, what she sees makes her more upset with herself more than anything. Ace just as pissed off does not know how to fix things either. When they do finally get together she opens up about her past but he does not about his. They do agree to work together to find her brother, and decisions need to be made as far as her staying or leaving the force. Whether they can be a couple if she stays with the force, and why won’t he open up to her. When they come to finding her brother all of these other questions get answered with a few surprises. A better story than I thought it was going to be. Good characters also. I got this book from netgalley. I gave it 4 stars. Follow us atwww.1rad-readerreviews.com

Body guards, his assignment is a female bio chemist whose brother was kidnap for a formula she has for a Nero toxin. Angelia McAllister, and her brother are the children of a former general so that has made this assignment more important for the firm. Knowing that she is going to continue to try to leave he ends up taking her out of the house and to Africa where her brother is to try and rescue him. In doing so his comes back in spades, in the people who are after him personally in Africa, and for a young boy he had to leave behind because of red tape, and the women he was marrying they had agreed to come back for him but she died two weeks after their wedding. Now he stands in front of him confused with a rifle and whether to shoot the only person he knew as family or let him go. Confused what he does is amazing. A good story with an idea I think in trying to tell a little of what goes on in Africa at least in one village. I got this book from netgalley. I gave it 3 stars. HUBBY'S REVIEW:
The King Brothers have been summoned home by the women who raised them. After Colt the middle brother has a run in with his older brother Duke who runs the custom car company, he actually does the manual labor and Colt stays in the company offices making money. Duke spent 10 years in prison and when he came out started working towards owning a custom car shop. Colt did his time in college getting a degree in business and is now working at making more money for them and a younger you use to race car is the face of the company. Now back in the small town where they never thought they would be again to see the Aunt who took them in when their father took off leaving them and then Duke did everything he could to keep them feed and clothe only to get arrested for stealing food. That is when she came in and took the boys in. Duke goes to prison for an assault charge. When they get to the house Duke drops off the two brothers and heads off to the hospital. When Colt goes into the home he is confronted with a women holding a gun. After getting the gun away from her he finds out that she is living there and working at the salon the Aunt owns. Her name is Zanna. The story goes along and they find that they are attracted to one another but each one has issues that they must work out, and when he has to go back to Vegas he wants to take her, but she does not want to be some girl just sitting at his apartment waiting for him doing nothing. This is just one item that they must work on to make their relationship work if it is going to work. A fun and good story. Really like the characters. I got this book from Netgalley. BLACK SABBATH

BLACK SABBATH                  MICK WALL

Decades before reality television was invented, Ozzy Osbourne was subversive and dark. Ozzy was the singer in the heavy metal band Black Sabbath, and they meant business. In an era when rock bands were measured by how 'heavy' they were, no one was weightier than Black Sabbath. All four founding members of the original Black Sabbath grew up within half-a-mile of each other in a tiny Birmingham suburb. Though all shared a deep love of music--The Beatles for Ozzy, the Mothers of Invention for Geezer, the Shadows and Chet Atkins for Iommi, and Gene Kruppa for Ward— they formed their group "as the quickest way out of the slums." This is the story of how they made that dream come true--and how it then turned into a nightmare for all of them. At the height of their fame, Sabbath discovered they'd been so badly ripped off by their managers they didn't even own their own songs. They looked for salvation from Don Arden—an even more notorious gangster figure, who resurrected their career but still left them indebted to him, financially and personally. It finally came to a head when in 1979 they sacked Ozzy: "For being too out of control--even for us," as Bill Ward put it. The next fifteen years were a war between the post-Ozzy Sabbath and Ozzy himself, whose solo career overshadowed Sabbath so much that a reunion was entirely on his terms. Or rather, those of his wife and manager—to add a further bitter twist for Sabbath, daughter of Don Arden —Sharon Osbourne.

HUBBY'S REVIEW:
A good book about the band in my opinion started heavy metal. Starts with their humble beginnings and leads into their first booking as a band then their first record and on from there. They talk about not getting their credit but when I was growing up first buying there music when it first came out my friends and I thought it was great and something new and different. We were so young we did not read any of the magazines about what people said about a record we just knew what we liked. We liked their music that is until Ozzy left. This book goes into all of the back story and then into the different replacement singers for Ozzy. In my opinion Ronnie James Dio was the best but they could not work things out to keep him. I started listening to him as well in his solo career. The book goes into his solo career and that of Ozzy, and the different people that came into the band. Also how Tony Iommi worked on keeping the brand going but was losing site because of all of the back fighting with managers. Then goes into how Sharon Osbourne after she married Ozzy was waiting for the right time to come in and take over Black Sabbath. The way she was able to get control of the name was brilliant on her part but Iommi had lost control of the name and of the group. Though they got together for a reunion except for Bill Ward the name lives on. Then ends with the making of Sabbath 13. Overall a good book, if you are a fan of the band you know some of the things maybe not all of the manager things that went on behind the scenes, but the drugs, sex, etc.. That is nothing new in this book. For me I have been listening to their music since I was 11 and that probably explains some things but their music was different and harder I still listen to those first records. So I did not know about all of the lack of press. Overall a good book well written and follows a time line. I got this book from Netgalley. I gave it 4 stars. THE OVERTAXED INVESTOR

THE OVERTAXED INVESTOR             PHIL DE MUTH

Taxes Come First

Every year, Congress used to paste together a mismash of temporary tax rules. Then the so-called American Taxpayer Relief Act of 2012 rocked this world, making long-range tax planning possible for the first time in a decade. Because tax rates skyrocketed, it also became necessary.

Being tax-smart is now more important than ever. In our low-return environment, high taxes on investments gnaw like rats on your profits. Taxes need to be the first thing an investor considers, not an afterthought. Today you have to start with taxes. Nationally recognized investment advisor Phil DeMuth decrypts the 73,954 pages of tax code to show you where the trip-wires lie. He offers simple rules of thumb to navigate the minefield, all in sparkling English.

If you aren't playing the long game with your taxes now, you are sending a valentine to the U.S. Treasury every April 15 with a needlessly fat check attached. DeMuth shows how to safely pare your investment tax bill down to the legal minimum requirement. It adds up to a small fortune that would be better spent on your life, your family, and your retirement.

HUBBY'S REVIEW:
A good book that deals with different investments and how to offset the tax and what to put your money the investment with the least amount of tax liability and the better investment for long term tax. All of his information is based off of the 2012 tax law for investments and the changes that took place and that are still in place. This is not a quick read but one that is very useful not just for tax time but for year round. A very good resource book. Well written. I got this book from Netgalley. I gave it 4 stars. HONKY TONK SAMURAI

HONKY TONK SAMURAI            JOE R. LANSDALE

Only Hap and Leonard would catch a cold case with hot cars, hot women, and ugly skinheads.
The story starts simply enough when Hap, a former 60s activist and self-proclaimed white trash rebel, and Leonard, a tough black, gay Vietnam vet and Republican with an addiction to Dr. Pepper, are working a freelance surveillance job in East Texas. The uneventful stakeout is coming to an end when the pair witness a man abusing his dog. Leonard takes matters into his own fists, and now the bruised dog abuser wants to press charges.
One week later, a woman named Lilly Buckner drops by their new PI office with a proposition: find her missing granddaughter, or she'll turn in a video of Leonard beating the dog abuser. The pair agrees to take on the cold case and soon discover that the used car dealership where her granddaughter worked is actually a front for a prostitution ring. What began as a missing-person case becomes one of blackmail and murder.
Filled with Lansdale's trademark whip-smart dialogue, relentless pacing, and unorthodox characters, Honky Tonk Samurai is a rambunctious thrill ride by one hell of a writer.

HUBBY'S REVIEW:
Frist time reading any of this series and I must say it does keep you moving story wise. It opens up with Hap and Leonard on a stake out in East Texas. Not really anything happening until they see a man start abusing his dog or puppy. Leonard is upset not just about that but he has run out of Dr. Pepper and takes it out on the animal abuser. Then the police are called and of course there cover is blown for the stack out, but they saved the dog. A woman across the street recorded most everything at least the part of the abuse by the dog owner and they were free to go. When they get back to the office they find out that there boss has now become the chief of police and they need to find new jobs because they are not going to take the time to take the test for a P.I licensing. Hap’s girlfriend decides to take over the business and a week later a women by the name of Lilly comes in and wants to hire them to find the bones of her missing granddaughter of seven years. Not wanting to do it she shows them the entire video which includes Leonard beating up the dog abuser. They take the case and at the same time they have now opened up a slew of murder, prostitution, a crazy sadistic hit-man, and Leonard’s craving for vanilla wafers that at one point need to be kept under lock and key. A fast paced story with many twists and turns, but an enjoyable read. I got this book from Netgalley. I gave it 4 stars. Follow us at www.1rad-readerreviews.com
