TOTALLY, SWEETLY IRREVOCABLY (Sweet Love #2)

TOTALLY, SWEETLY IRREVOCABLY                           KIRA ARCHER

When Officer Rick Boyd answers a call about a peeping Tom, he doesn’t expect to find a gorgeous woman holding the binoculars. But Gina Silvano’s no peeping Tom, and she can catch her cupcake truck’s kinky vandals herself, thank you very much. No sexy cops required.

No matter how hot their stakeouts, by-the-book Officer Boyd can’t see a future with a dangerous, rule-breaking wild-child who despises the law. He’s never felt more alive, though, and expunging her from his heart might be impossible.

But loving each other might cost them more than they are able to give.

HUBBY'S REVIEW:

The book opens up with Gina Silvano the lead female character trying to spy on her own food truck, which actually makes sweets during the day but has to be parked on the street at night. She knows someone is breaking into her truck and causing damage to the point that she has to clean it up in the morning. Now that two things are leading her to think that it is her ex-boyfriend Tony, she has found the perfect spot to watch her truck, but her neighbor has now called the cops on her and once they show up it is when the real sparks begin to fly. Tina is someone who does not take s—t from anyone especially the police. Officer Rick Boyd and his partner Joe show up and immediately Gina can feel something different when Rick grab her ankle to pull her in from the fire escape. Not knowing that he was taking his life into his own hands for she went off on him and the two of them gave each other a look that made his partner say cuff her and put her in the car. She of course came back with he would not know how to use them differently. By the time they get her down to the car his partner Joe is smiling because he has never seen his partner taken back before. The take her to her apartment, and when they get back to the station they realize that she has taken off with a pair of night vision googles that with other items needed to be placed into evidence. Now having to go back to her place after shift he can’t find her until he goes down the block and finds her on the roof of a building. When he tries to get after her for taking the googles she says since they were not police and should have been logged in earlier in his shift she did not do anything wrong. Not wanting to or realizing that there was no point in arguing they finally agree to meet each night after his shift and he will help her in staking out her truck. Now these two are attracted to each other but are totally opposite and that is what makes this book. He is so by the book he even gives one if his sisters a ticket, he also gives her one as well. Later in the story you find out why she has a problem with police, but they are working on making it work. That is until one night when everything goes up in flames or I should say frosting, whip crème, syrup, and other items when she finally caught Tony in her truck. He is not happy and cannot see beyond his nose and they break up. Now it is up to his sister and her best friend to try to get them back together if possible. This is a very funny story with very good characters, and I really like Gina. There is so much more to this book so give it a shot it is a fantastic read. I got this book from netgalley. I gave it 5 stars. Follow us at www.1rad-readerreviews.com

A BLOOD-DIMMED TIDE: The Battle of the Bulge by the Men Who Fought It

A BLOOD-DIMMED TIDE                                   GERALD ASTOR

More information to be announced soon on this forthcoming title from Penguin USA.

HUBBY'S REVIEW:

This book first came out in 1992 and I am now reading a reissued copy. I found this book to be an excellent description of events of the Battle. The author gives you information from the German side and how most of the Generals were against this assault and that that it would fail. You also of course get the American side, but the difference is you are hearing for the soldiers from the private to the sergeant. First on why they enlisted and then how they became attached the unit they were with. Some of the men describe how after they enlisted wanted to be paratroopers and what that entailed. You also get a look at the entire battle, and not just Bastogne which now it seems is all that people talk about. Not taking anything from the 101st, but you had just about their entire American European force working together at different targets to stop the Germans. This was the bloodiest battle for American troops in WWII, and the author gives you good insight into this entire mess including the Americans not responding quickly to reinforce their lines. He also gives a list of soldiers at the end and there accommodations, and he gives you a chapter of the Armies official record of the battle and to the end of the war. My father fought with the 82nd and this like the other battles he did not talk too much about other than losing friends and spending many nights in fox holes being shelled. This book gave a little more insight into what they went through. A good read. I got this book from netgalley. I gave it 5 stars.

THE DOLL'S HOUSE (Helen Grace #3)

THE DOLL'S HOUSE                                            M.J. ARLIDGE

A young woman wakes up in a cold, dark cellar, with no idea how she got there or who her kidnapper is. So begins her terrible nightmare.

Nearby, the body of another young woman is discovered buried on a remote beach. But the dead girl was never reported missing - her estranged family having received regular texts from her over the years. Someone has been keeping her alive from beyond the grave.

For Detective Inspector Helen Grace it's chilling evidence that she's searching for a monster who is not just twisted but also clever and resourceful - a predator who's killed before.

And as Helen struggles to understand the killer's motivation, she begins to realize that she's in a desperate race against time .

HUBBY'S REVIEW:
This is the third book in the series and I found this one not as suspenseful or dark as the other ones. This one does give more of an insight into Grace. Her past which was touched on a little in the first book. You also have more of a political struggle inside the force, for not everyone likes her and there is some one particular who would like to see her gone. As for the story like I said not as dark of suspenseful as the other books, but at some point the author would need to go farther into the background of Grace. The more you find out you start to figure out why she is so good at her job and why people don’t like her. A lot of it has to do with her being able to solve the cases. Overall this was not a bad book just a tad different than the first ones. I got this book from netgalley. I gave it 4 stars.

POP GOES THE WEASEL (Helen Grace #2)

POP GOES THE WEASEL                                M.J. ARLIDGE

DI Helen Grace returns in Pop Goes the Weasel, the electrifying new thriller from M. J. Arlidge.

The body of a middle-aged man is discovered in Southampton's red-light district - horrifically mutilated, with his heart removed.

Hours later - and barely cold - the heart arrives with his wife and children by courier.

A pattern emerges when another male victim is found dead and eviscerated, his heart delivered soon afterwards.

The media call it Jack the Ripper in reverse; revenge against the men who lead sordid double lives visiting prostitutes. For Grace, only one thing is certain: there's a vicious serial-killer at large who must be halted at all costs . . .

HUBBY'S REVIEW:
I am getting to this review late, but let me say I am glad that it was as good as the first book. This is very difficult especially when not all of the characters from the first book where coming back. The team has changed and still Helen Grace has I think more of an edge to her in this book than the first for the way things ended and for things she was not able to say. She is also still upset with one of her teammates and for me this just adds to the story. The crime that they are working on is once again graphic but this all part of the authors way of writing. The darkness of the story line actually goes with the main character so it all works together. This is a well written and suspenseful story with an edge I don’t find too often these days. A fantastic read. I got this book from netgalley. I gave it 5 stars.

MADE FOR US (The Shaughnessy Brothers #1)

MADE FOR US                                                        SAMANTHA CHASE

The Shaughnessy brothers—Aiden in particular—have spent the years since their mother’s untimely death taking care of each other and trying to make their father proud. And Aiden has managed pretty well so far. But his father is starting to worry he’s neglected himself. At the age of thirty-four, he is successful and handsome, and he still has no grandchildren!

Aiden’s met plenty of attractive women over the years, but who has the time? It isn’t until he meets Zoe, a designer on one of his jobs, that he starts realizing he wants something more...

HUBBY'S REVIEW:
This book is the first in a series with the Shaughnessy Brother’s. The author is starting out with the oldest brother Aiden. For being the oldest he is having a problem with change. Since their mother passed away 17 years ago he has gotten in such a routine with his family that they all allow him to get away with treating people rudely, and acting childish when there is a situation in his life he needs to deal with he runs away to be by himself. These character flaws are more pronounced when a new decorator is hired to take over for the one that was fired. She actually calls him on his behavior and at the same time is dealing with her own recent loss of her mother and then moving to a new State after her funeral. Not expecting to be attracted to anyone she finds herself attracted to Aiden and he is attracted to Zoe, but does not know to treat people let alone treat a girlfriend. When he leaves her stranded for over a day without a car and no way to get a hold of him. He is upset when he finally comes back and she is packed and wants to be taken into town. he can’t figure out what is wrong when almost two days before he says I need to go and leaves without saying where is going when he is coming back just that she must be there when he does come back because he is Aiden Shaughnessy, and people know whatever he was doing must have been right. She calls bullshit and he does not know how to handle that or anything else she puts in his way. That is just one example. There are others and once you get passed that this is a good story, for the other characters help move the story along and you are not always focused on the two of them. Overall a good book. I got this book from netgalley. I gave it 4 stars. Follow us at www.1rad-readerreviews.com

Along the way, the two of them fight a home-grown terrorist cell in a duel that might cost one of them their lives.

HUBBY'S REVIEW:
In this seal story Alex who is divorced and not looking for a long term relationship. Is to meet a volleyball player Sydney who is working on getting back to the pro beach scene but does not have a partner right now. While on their date he finds out a lot about her. She likes zombie’s movies, chocolate, and coffee. She is also taller than him and he likes it. They have a very passionate relationship and this story has a much more mature story line from the beginning. But it actually goes with the personality of the two characters that she has created, and does not take away from it at all. I will say there is a lot going on in their story and I found this one to be one of the more exciting and faster reads for me. This does have a nice twist at the end. Overall a very good book. I got this book from netgalley. I gave it 5 stars. Follow us www.1rad-readerreviews.com

HUBBY'S REVIEW:
This story has Zak and Amy getting married to open and then on his first mission he gets seriously injured and not only overcome his injuries, but also his anger and wanting to do everything to push Amy away. The problem is she is a fighter like him and won’t leave. She actually gets him to finally break down and from there the healing begins, of both physical and their relationship. Like in the other books the ending is a little dramatic, but worth it. Overall a good story about recovery and two people being there for one another. His relationship with Megan is tested to the breaking point as Rory wades through the dark waters of recovery and whether or not he can live without the life he loves. Rory is a Navy Seal and having grown up in an orphanage he has never felt part of. Since becoming a Seal he belongs to a family and for him he thinks that this is enough until he meets Meagan who had a family until 9-11 when they were killed. Now after a few coffee dates they both want to take what they have and see if it could be more. But really that is just words they each just want a one night stand. When they are finally practicing skiing in Big Bear when she comes up with one of the wife’s and surprises him and though he acts upset he is really happy. Rory gets hurt skiing and wants to be alone so Meagan has to make a statement to get his attention. While all off this is going on there is a story of a terrorist who has tracked down Rory for a bomb that was placed in his village killing his wife besides the target he was after. Now he is going after Rory, but if he can’t get him he will go after Meagan. The ending of this book is very exciting and full of suspense. Feels like events taken out of today’s headlines, and makes you become more aware of your surroundings. A very good story. I got this book from netgalley. Follow us at www.1rad-readerreviews.com

HUBBY'S REVIEW:

This book is not about football, so if you are thinking that it is this book is not for you. What this book is about is a family who is TOUGH and through their journey of losing a son, Brother Hunter who passed away from a rare disease. How they came together for their father fighting is cancer. Written by Erin the oldest daughter she gives a very open and honest look into her family’s life. From both sides up and down. She has taken pieces of her journal and put them in this book which I found to be really amazing and helpful for anyone going through what this family has been. Not really knowing what I was getting when I got this book I am glad I did. Overall a very good book. I got this book from netgalley. I gave it 4 stars. Follow us atwww.1rad-readerreviews.com

HUBBY'S REVIEW:

This is the second book in the trilogy and I did not read the first one. I will say that this story has moments of suspense and mystery and you along with the two main characters are trying to come up with some answers. Though this is at times a gripping story the ending being a cliff hanger and having to wait for the third book to come out is a problem for me. I do have problems with cliffhangers, but this time I think it was me not reading the entire description. So because of that this is still a very good book with a good storyline and good characters. I do not want to get into the story to much because I tend to give it away, but the beginning part at the drive in brought back memories of a time when we would go on Friday and Saturday nights, a much different time back then. Overall a good book. I got this book from netgalley. I gave it 3 stars. Follow us at www.1rad-readerreviews.com
