Mackenzie “Kiki” Forbes finds herself in a pickle.
Either become her snarky sister’s nanny or move halfway across the country to work as assistant-to-the-stylist of a country music star. Neither job sounds ideal, although bedazzling cowboy boots may be a hell of a lot more interesting than ironing her brother-in-law’s underwear. But life on the road as the errand coffee girl for a sold-out tour leaves much to be desired. That is until Kiki meets her sinfully sexy new boss’s boss…

Tatum Reed’s career is flying high. He’s up for country music’s Entertainer of the Year and he’s headed out on a nationwide sold-out tour. So why does he feel like it’s all about to implode? His superstar ex-girlfriend seems determined to make his life difficult, his opening act is a handful, and the new girl on his tour, the feisty brunette, is quickly getting under his skin. In this crazy world of showbusiness, Tatum needs to learn who he can trust, but that doesn’t come easily, because the one person who holds all the cards may just throw them down and walk away.
Life in the public eye is never all it’s cracked up to be, which has both Kiki and Tatum questioning what they’re really doing with their careers, and their hearts.

Sarah Bowen’s life is nothing like she thought it’d be ten years ago. She runs a successful lifestyle boutique with her two best friends, she’s the makeup artist to one of country’s hottest bands, and she’s in love with a womanizing heartthrob who doesn’t give her the time of day. After years of pining after Lex Ryan, she decides it’s finally her turn, even if it might ruin everything, she’s worked for…
Lex Ryan is the sexy Irish lead guitarist for the hottest country band in the States. He’s known as a serial dater, a commitment-phobe, a player who prefers one-night stands. His wild heart has zero plans of settling down—not even with the band’s makeup artist, Sarah Bowen. He’s vowed to keep his heart from falling for her. Until the band travels to Ireland where his past suddenly crashes into his present.
They say wild hearts can’t be tamed. They never said they can’t be broken.

The Makeup Artist is the second book in the Coffee Book Series. It’s a standalone novel, but the author suggests reading Coffee Girl first because of returning characters.

Sophie Sinclair loves to write lighthearted Romantic Comedies with HEA’s. She lives in Davidson, NC with her husband and two daughters.

Rad-Reader:  Where did the idea for this story come from?

Sophie: My husband got me a summer concert series. I was watching one country music band and the singer was sweating like crazy. He jumped off the stage in between songs and when he came back on he was sweat-free and shirtless. I thought I wonder who’s job it is to wipe the sweat off him. The book evolved from that.

Rad-Reader:  How did you go about creating Kiki and Tatum’s characters?

Sophie: Tatum became a combination of all the country music acts I watched that summer. He’s not based off, one particular country music musician. Kiki’s character developed organically as I built the story around her becoming Tatum’s assistant to his love interest.

Rad-Reader:  Kiki’s date really thought they could be exclusive after just one date?

Sophie: Lol, Ethan was a little bit of a control freak with a big ego. He liked Kiki and wanted to lock her down. In his mind, who wouldn’t want to be exclusive with him?

Rad-Reader:  How was someone able to live with themselves send a request for half a payment back for dinner on a date because he didn’t like the way it went?  She didn’t pay it did she?

Sophie: There’s actually a whole article I found on this particular style of dating. It’s crazy, but I guess with the new dating apps where you go into this blind date, men now feel that their date should pay half especially if the date doesn’t go well. I’m sure she did pay just to get out of there.

Rad-Reader:  Kiki’s sister is a piece of work.  Has she always been like this?

Sophie: Yes, her sister has always gotten her way. Their parents just ignore her obnoxious behavior or laugh it off. Their mom coddles Brooke.

Rad-Reader:  Cam and MacKenzie are really close.  Who’s the eldest?  How did she get the name Kiki?

Sophie: Brooke is the oldest, then Cameron and Kiki is the youngest.  Her real name is Mackenzie but shortened to Kiki. I didn’t want to shorten it to Mac. Kiki seemed fitting for the baby of the family.

Rad-Reader:  Who is the friend Cam calls to help Kiki and if she is ok’d by him why is Jess so pissy?

Sophie: Cam is good friends with Lee, the manager of Tatum Reed. Jess doesn’t think she needs an assistant. She doesn’t have time to babysit a newbie and she’s worried Kiki might steal her job. Jess didn’t get a say in having her hired.

Rad-Reader:  Sarah is such a sweet girl why hasn’t Lex ever tried to go out with her?  How old are both of them?

Sophie: Lex didn’t want to mess up his friendship with Sarah since they worked together. He also wasn’t in a place to date her seriously. Sarah is in her late twenties and Lex is thirty.

Rad-Reader:  How long have Lex and Tatum known each other?

Sophie: Lex and Tatum have known each other for about eight years.

Rad-Reader:  What is Savannah’s deal?  She seems so angry yet she broke up with Tatum, right?  Or is she hangry?

Sophie: Lol, not hangry. She’s jealous of Tatum. She wants, his fame. She’s angry that he didn’t want to be a power couple with her. She did not end things with him, he broke up with her when he found out she cheated on him. She’s not in love with him, but she’s in love with the possibility of them. She wanted to be the “it” couple and he took that away from her.

Rad-Reader:  Savannah keeps spreading lies, the one about Tate and Maddie have caused nothing but problems, why is she doing it?

Sophie: She wants to hurt Tatum and make herself look like the victim in their breakup. She wants the fans to feel sorry for her and turn against Tatum. She’s jealous of his success. She also needs the fan's support to boost her record sales and her new pop album coming out.

Rad-Reader:  Maddie is a piece of work, what is her deal?

Sophie: Maddie is a rising star and it’s gotten to her head. She’s got a great voice, but a crappy personality. She wants Tatum’s fame to skyrocket her to the top. She’s jealous of the attention he gives Kiki, who in her eyes is a nobody. Why is he giving her so much attention when he has a rising star right in front of him?

Rad-Reader:  Why are they keeping her around?  There is always a way to spin a story nicely so she doesn’t stay on the tour.

Sophie: She’s got a good voice and is popular with the fans. She never does anything that gives them an excuse to kick her off the tour. Just because she doesn’t get along with Kiki (who by the way is low on the totem pole on this tour) doesn’t mean she’ll get fired. They do eventually kick her off the tour because Savannah requests it.

Rad-Reader:  Why didn’t Tate just come out and do a press conference getting ahead of Savannah’s lying interview?  Saying he received an advance copy of the magazine and wanted to address the issues since they are false.

Sophie: Lee wanted to try and handle it with the Lawyers and get it handled discreetly. It was a bad move on his part. Tatum does eventually decide to do exactly that and beat her to the punch.

Rad-Reader:  Why isn’t he talking to Kiki about the interview in case, it comes out?

Sophie: He was hoping the whole mess would get handled by the lawyers. He does eventually confide in her what’s been happening.

Rad-Reader:  How old are each of the guys in the band, Sarah, and Jess?

Sophie: The guys are in their late twenties, to early thirties. Sarah is in her late twenties and Jess is in her late thirties.

Rad-Reader:  Is Lee being a stir-stick between Savannah and Tate to keep them in the news together to keep the label happy and not helping Tate?

Sophie: Lee is all about making the label happy and keeping Tatum at the top. He wants only good press for Tatum. He thinks that keeping him at number one and getting him Entertainer of the Year is the most important thing for everyone. He doesn’t care about his personal feelings. It’s all about business.

Rad-Reader:  What is Savannah up to that she wants to sing with Tate in Seattle?  Is Maddie in on it with her?

Sophie: No. Savannah does not like Maddie, she’s threatened by Maddie’s sudden success. She’s got her own agenda to come to Seattle. You’ll have to read the book to find out why. 😉

Rad-Reader:  Is Lee working for Tate or Savannah?  I’m starting to wonder.

Sophie: Lee works for Tatum only. He is all about his success.

Rad-Reader:  Kiki gets devastating news and goes home.  Can things be made right?  Will Cam, know the truth his friend caused and will he stay friends with him?

Sophie: Lol, I guess you’ll have to read Coffee Girl to find out. 😉

Rad-Reader:  If your book were made into a movie who would you want to play…

Kiki:  Alexandra Daddario

Tate:  Christopher Mason

Sarah:  Elizabeth Olsen

Lex:  Stephen James

TJ:  Rhys Whittock

Cam:  Robbie Amell

Sophie:

Rad-Reader:  What song or songs best describes your characters or your character’s relationship or your book as a whole?

“Change Your Name – Brett Young”

Although Tatum did not know it at the time all he knew is that he saw Kiki carrying all those coffees and had to have her in his life. ‘Coffee Girl’ was who he wanted to know. He couldn’t get her off his mind and that she would be on tour with them made it better.

***

“Not My Ex – Jessie J”

Kiki has had a messed-up image problem due to being the tomboy between her and her older sister.  At sixteen all that changes yet, insecurities didn’t.  So, having Tatum’s ex being a superstar brings them all back.  Yet, he only sees his beautiful natural ‘Coffee Girl.’

***

“Addicted – Ben L’Oncle Soul”

Tatum’s ex is causing a lot of problems and the one that gives him peace is Kiki.  Just seeing her smile makes his world right.

***

“Pulling Away – Sinead Harnett”

When Lee adds to her insecurities adding the last nail in the coffin she knows she has to do what needs to be done to protect herself.

***

“When I Get My Hands on You – Marcus Mumford”

A chance meeting brings truths, and he has to let her know, his heart is hers, forever, and always was.

Sophie:

Kiki: “I Was Made for Loving You - Tori Kelly”

Tatum: “Dark Horse - Devin Dawson”

Rad-Reader:  If you could be a superhero which one would you be?  Or would you create a new one?  If so, what would your superpowers be?

Sophie: I’m not really into superheroes, but I always loved Superwoman growing up, so she would probably be mine. I’d love to be able to fly.

Rad-Reader:  What genre of book would you like to try and write?

Sophie: I’d love and try and write a thriller/murder mystery, lol but probably won’t. I love to read them.

Rad-Reader:  What is your favorite style of dress in what era, would you like to wear every day?

Sophie: I love the dresses from the roaring twenties, but it def wouldn’t be a dress I’d wear every day. I think the t-shirt dresses are so comfy.

Rad-Reader:  What is your next project and when will it be out?

Sophie: My next project is the third book in this series that will be out in August called The Social Hour. It’s Cam’s story.

I also just finished stand-alone enemies to lovers separate from the Coffee Book series due out this fall.
