DOWN & DIRTY (Lightning, #1)

DOWN & DIRTY                                    TRACY WOLFF

Emerson: Talk about bad first impressions. I have too much riding on this job to show up late on my first day looking like the winner of a wet T-shirt contest, all thanks to an arrogant quarterback who drives like he owns the road. Hunter Browning thinks that because he’s famous, he can fix everything with a smile and a wave of his hand. He’s too bronzed, buff, and beautiful for his own good. Or mine. I can’t let on that I’m a fan . . . no matter how much fun we’d have in the sack.

Hunter: Hitting that puddle was my best play since winning the Super Bowl with a touchdown pass. Sure, it’s not my preferred way to get a girl wet, but I’ll make an exception for Emerson Day. She’s got a sharp tongue and a red-hot temper, even with her soaking clothes plastered to her every curve. Now I know exactly what my next play will be: hire Emerson as my personal real-estate agent, save her job—and see if I can take her off the market.

MY REVIEW:

This was one very good book.  Not at all what I was expecting at all.  It totally caught me off guard with the different emotions it was able to produce within its pages.
There were the two main characters Emerson Day and Hunter Browning who meet on a rainy day under a funny mishap.  You see Emerson was starting a new job at a real estate office after getting her license.  The wicked owner Kerry has her starting off as a receptionist.  Mainly out of dislike.
As she’s running late because she took too long on her hair she runs up against trouble when her old Junker won’t start.  She has to call Uber who is late getting there.  While on their way it starts to pour rain in Southern California.  It almost never rains in San Diego.  When she arrives in the parking lot the driver parks in the only space available and it has a puddle right outside her door.  But she manages to miss it.
It had stopped raining so she took a minute to adjust her pencil skirt and blouse.  When a new truck is hauling ass, and pulls into space and plowing into the puddle, splashing her.  Making her look like a drowned rat.  She is so angry she can’t speak at first then she looks to the heavens asking, “Are you serious?”  Then she sees the driver and she is really pissed.
It is one of her favorite players from the San Diego Lightning football team, Hunter Browning, quarterback.  He is a total womanizer, smart ass, and joker.  When he comes around and sees her he says, “Sorry about that, Sweetheart.  But it’s a great look on you.”  Yeah, he would say that she is showing her lady goods on top like a wet t-shirt contest.
At first, she can’t speak.  When she does she lets him have it.  It backfires he’s turned on by it.  The sexual tension between them is bigger than both of them it’s that far off the charts.  Not to mention her top is showing her nipples are standing at attention and it’s pissing her off.  But she has no idea he can see the peep show her ire has her see red.  He is not a total ass she thinks because he offers her a hundred dollars for dry cleaning which she takes.
What she doesn’t know is that he was thinking she wouldn’t and she was trying for more than a dinner or date.  So, he was baffled.  So, when she turns to leave to go into the same door he is going to go into she stops her efforts.  “You took the money?”  “If you didn’t want me to take it you shouldn’t have offered, Sweetheart.”  He still won’t move his hand.  He asks for her name.  She says, she thought he knew, “Sweetheart.”  Still holding the door.  She takes her high heel and stomps his foot.  Guess what he moved.
When they’re both inside still passing oral foreplay about back and forth.  Kerry, Emerson’s boss comes out of her office to greet Hunter and gives Emerson her very displeased look.  The hits keep coming kind of day so far for her.  Because after she does her best to clean up in the restroom by removing her top and bra and putting on a cardigan, she removes her makeup and adds all she has red lipstick and puts her hair in a ponytail.  When she gets to her desk.  She gets called by Kerry to come to her office.
She’s thinking this is it, I am being fired…No!  Hunter told her he wanted her to be the realtor to show him homes.  Let the games begin.  The sexual tension is off the charts.  The verbal sparring sends it up even more.  There is a sadness and an urgency to the whole idea as to why Hunter needs a home fast.  This brings you to your knees.
I totally enjoyed this erotic book of a couple that shouldn’t and wouldn’t have run in the same circles but fate brought them together and they worked.  They just fit.  I give this: 5++++ stars.  Provided by netgalley.com.  Follow us at
