IN THE RED ZONE (Kelly Brothers #6)

IN THE RED ZONE                                  CRISTA MCHUGH

All-Star linebacker Frank Kelly is as well-known for his off-the-field hits as he is for his on-field ones. When a dance club brawl ends with him in handcuffs again, he’s rescued by a well-connected woman who can get the charges dropped in exchange for a small favor. If he’ll agree to play the part of a doting boyfriend for two months, she’ll keep him out of the slammer and help restore his reputation.

Kiana Dyer may be the daughter of a Hall of Fame football player, but the charity organization she took over when he died isn’t getting the media attention she’d hoped for. A staged romance with Frank Kelly is just the ticket she needs to get in the spotlight. As the lines between fake and real start to blur, she begins to wonder if bailing him out was the best call she’s ever made. Just when everything seems to be falling perfectly in place, scandal surrounds her charity, and she’s the one left scrambling to clear her name.

MY REVIEW:
Having adopted children of color and married the white boy as Kiana had teased Frank.  I get all the struggles.  Being Hispanic and having a blended family was interesting but to live in the skin and not be accepted from your own family because of your mixed color skin can’t be easy.
Then to end up falling for your first love and it is an abusive relationship.  No one should ever have to go through that.  It skews your view of what a loving relationship is supposed to look like.  You see Kiana being this power woman who has it all together and then a look, a movement, or a tone from Frank who is a hulking man can set her in a mindset that freezes her up.  Putting her mind back in a time of fear that has her shaking in her boots.
Frank is the youngest of seven boys.  He is a star football player in Atlanta?  He plays on the same team as Kiana’s brother, Tre.  They come from two completely different backgrounds.  Being the youngest and the only with red hair and the Irish came out in him they say.
He just never seemed to keep out of trouble.  It had been two whole years.  He had promised his brother and manager, Adam.  He had been too.  On the night he meets Kiana when trouble jumps off, he’s in the middle but only as her protector.  Not as a start or anything bad.  No charges are brought against him either.  Adam is totally surprised.
What surprised him more is that he had Kiana there to watch his back and she covered for him so there would be no charges for sure.  All surprises to Adam but happy ones.
This story is about a couple who get into this to bring attention to the foundation that was founded by Kiana’s dad in order to get helmets to children so no head injuries would continue to hurt them.
What happens is the man Kiana thought was a cocky star is really a gentle giant who can be unsure of himself sometimes.  Not to mention, the fire breathing woman he thought Kiana was is an unsure beautiful woman.  She needs to be told daily if he has his way that she’s beautiful, curvaceous, sexy, and lush.  Not to mention smart, hardworking, and worth more than anything he can ever give her.

I totally enjoyed this book.  I give this: 5 stars.  Provided by netgalley.com.  Follow us at www.1rad-readerreviews.com.
