Favors and LiesDan Lord is a forty-year-old private detective with a law degree working the blurred line between right and wrong in the Nation’s Capital. As a self-employed solutions broker and legal consultant, he works for a very select clientele. He doesn’t advertise and only takes cases on referral. But when two people close to him are murdered, Dan's work becomes very personal.

With the assistance of a newly hired female intern, extracting clues from a ladder of acquaintances, Dan bounds through both the underbelly and elite of society, each step bringing more questions and yet ultimately taking him closer to the answer he seeks. A bail bondsman, a recluse hacker, a court clerk, a university student, an old-school barber, a high-class madam, an intelligence officer, a medical doctor, and a police detective are among the list of people Dan must cajole for help. His quest will lead him to discover things he never wanted to know, and put him in the position to reveal things that important people would prefer remain unrevealed.

Tense, ingenious, and filled with the unforgettable characters that have become a Mark Gilleo trademark, FAVORS AND LIES is the most thrilling novel yet from one of the great new voices in suspense fiction.

HUBBY'S REVIEW:
Dan Lord, is a private eye and the lead character in this book. The book starts off with him sowing a judge some pictures and the way he enters the hotel bar and leaves really set up how this book is going to play out. After he gets home he receives a phone call from his sister in law and she is having a bad night. He rushes over there and finds that she is dead and this story takes off. Just about everyone who comes into contact with him either ends up dead or an attempt is made. This makes for a nonstop book. You find out a lot about Lord and most of it is good he has always been careful and that is a good thing. It takes him awhile to put things together about who is behind all of the killings but once he finds out he does not want to stop until they are taken care of. I thought this was a well written and a very in depth book about each character that came into play. It was a very fast read for me I did not want to put it down. I have never read anything by this author before but after this book I will look for some of his other books. A very good story. I got this book from net galley.
