THE BOYFRIEND SWAP

THE BOYFRIEND SWAP                                                MEREDITH SCHORR

Is Christmas really the most wonderful time of the year? New Yorkers Robyn Lane and Sidney Bellows aren’t so sure.

Robyn has always dated struggling creative types. For once, her parents would love her to bring someone with health insurance and a 401(k) to their Chrismukkah celebration. Her actor boyfriend doesn’t qualify. While across town, Sidney’s professional life already belongs to her parents. She’s an attorney at her father’s law firm and she works tirelessly to keep her love life private. If she brings her lawyer boyfriend to their annual Christmas extravaganza, her parents will have the wedding planned by New Year’s Eve.

A mutual friend playfully suggests they trade boyfriends for the holidays. The women share a laugh, but after copious amounts of wine, decide The Boyfriend Swap could be the perfect solution. This way, Robyn can show off her stable attorney boyfriend and Sidney’s high-society family will take no interest in her flakey actor beau.

It’s a brilliant plan—in theory. In practice—not so much. When Will turns out to be the boy-next-door Robyn crushed on hard throughout her teenage years, and Sidney’s family fawns all over Perry like he’s an Oscar-winner rather than a D-list wannabe, one thing is certain: The Boyfriend Swap might just change their lives forever.

MY REVIEW:
What a comically refreshing read this book was.  I have to say this author is beyond funny.  She really has a way with words and developing simple scenes that happen to all of us and turning them into moments to laugh about.
What’s even funnier is throughout the story Robyn Lane, better known now as Snow, gets told, “You’re doing it again.”  What she’s doing most of the time is laughing at herself, to herself, or at something.  Her past behaviors or something really out of context she said again that shouldn’t have been said.
You see Robyn comes from a background of showing people who helped her through her awkward teen years with a song in her love of drama.  Most of all her crush on the one-year older boy she lost her heart to at eight-years-old until he went off to college.  But he never knew.
Now music teacher who loves her job, who gets to put on productions, with her students where they use their acting and sing as well as dance.  What’s nice is that she has been sharing the last year of her life but not living together but part-time with Perry Smith.
An actor of the theater originally when they met but he has done TV shows, commercials, and some singing at mic night and with a cover band.  There is just one catch with their relationship.  Her parents really don’t like him.  It never phases her sexy hunk of a man.  He only has eyes for her.
Neither is serious like marriage but they are committed until their not.  They don’t share or play nice with others so she loves that about him.  Because when he walks into a room, women take notice.  Being she is 5’3” compared to a doll called American Girl is not the same as a Sexy Vixen.
She and her roommate Anne Marie have a wine tasting party.  Their apartment in NY may not be huge but it has a great view of the Hudson and it’s cozy.  Anyway, Anne Marie’s boss shows up.  Anne Marie says she’s used to getting what she wants.
She is gorgeous.  Long legs, long red hair with bangs, forest green eyes, and dressed in stiletto heels, dark expensive blue jeans, and sweater.  Robyn felt underdressed.  But she seemed okay.  She was the last to leave and several bottles under their belts she catches on I was dreading going home for the holiday break.  As she was.  We both didn’t want to take our guys and subject them to our parents.  When Anne Marie says off the cuff that we should swap.
I was not keen on the subject at all but Sidney said her boyfriend was a lawyer just my parents wanted and my boyfriend is an actor exactly what her parents wouldn’t want a win, win.  And since they do entertainment law he would fit right in with the people at the parties.
Could I talk to Perry?  She would talk to her man, Will and get him talked into it.  When all four meet it turns out Will is her Will---her crush.  Things just got interesting.  I have to say I had a lot of fun reading this book.  I was sorry when it ended.

I give this book 5 ++++ stars.  Provided by netgalley.com.  Follow us at www.1rad-readerreviews.com.
