Stella has worked for a nonprofit for years, helping to feed starving children in third-world countries. When she comes home for the funeral to say goodbye to her grandfather, the only stability she’s ever known, she finds herself falling into the arms of sexy cowboy Scout when shared loss and simple comfort turns to a night of passion before they each go their separate ways.
But three months later, Stella returns to the ranch, faced with the stipulations of her grandfather’s will: she must stay for the better part of the year, or lose the ranch to charity. But as Stella slowly remembers why she’s always loved the place she’s come back to, Scout has to decide if he’s okay with never owning the land he works. Is having a family enough? Or will he pass on love and passion for a farm of his own?

Scout Beckett had always wanted to run a ranch but wanted to do it his way. He left the family ranch and started working for George Steadman. Having his way of doing things and turning the ranch into dairy he was going well until George passed away. The day of the funeral Stella his granddaughter shows up from the city and for the most part, everything goes okay. Later they end up in bed together and when she leaves the next day it is with the idea of selling the ranch to Scout. Now, three months later and Stella is back at the ranch but with a different plan. One she is pregnant with his child, two she does not want to sell the ranch. An interesting story for the fact that most of it has Stella doing all of the changing. He wants her to leave the big city and her job, not to go to all of the countries she does which is also part of her job while he just stays where he is at. When she finally agrees to move to the ranch he is upset that she won’t sell, but never once said he loved her, or even I love you let’s get married? No, it’s why are you doing this to me. Even when his brothers try to tell him he still feels like they are telling him what to do instead of looking at the whole picture. Sometimes Scout character frustrated me and it added to the story but overall I really liked it and it was something totally different. A very good book.
