Maddie Westerfield is looking after her 8 year old nephew while her sister is deployed. She is also a grief counselor a position that she took on after she lost her own husband in Afghanistan. She is just trying to make it from day to day. LT David Sterling is still beating himself up the two men that were killed in the ambush eight years ago in Afghanistan, and as it turns out he runs into Maddie not knowing that she is the widow of one of the Marines that died that day. He tries to distance himself from her but he is attracted to her and when she takes on coaching her nephews pee wee football team he volunteers to be the assistant coach. The more time they spend together the more he is not only attracted to her but he realizes that he wants a family and he wants it with her. His guilt over her husband’s death is eating at him and when the Corp wants to award him the Bronze Star he starts to panic. Not telling her want is going on she figures that he does not want to be with her even though he said he did. By now her sister has come home so she alone in her house and after getting pissed she realizes he is not going to return any of her calls or texts so she is done with him. He finally gets his head on straight but is it too late? Will Maddie take him back? Read the book and find out. A good story. I got this book from netgalley. I give this 4 stars.
