Everything in Tessa Tarrington's life is swirling out of control.
Burglarized apartment. No job. Sick dad. And to top off her list of lemons, she returned to the one place still haunting her nightmares: High School.
Teaching at her Alma Mater wouldn't be awful, except she is sharing purgatory with her mortal enemy: Ryland Jessup.
But after eight years, and tragedies she can barely understand, Ryland no longer fits her mental image of an over-sized bully. With each passing day, he is rapidly ascending her like meter and she's not quite sure how that happened.

Ryland Jessup is slowly pulling the pieces of his life together. After the sudden death of his wife, he hung up his professional shoulder pads and picked up a whistle, coaching his high school football team and raising his daughter. The sudden return of his childhood crush, Tessa Tarrington, has fueled his chivalrous soul. But will the return of his best friend stifle any hope he has to ignite the dream of a relationship with Tessa?

Tessa Tarrington’s life is in the toilet. She was fired from her ghostwriting job when her apartment was burglarized and all of her client information was leaked to the press. Her pastor father suffered a sudden heart attack forcing her to return to her home town of Gibson’s Run, Ohio. In order to make ends meet she begins substitute teaching at her alma mater alongside her childhood nemesis – Ryland Jessup.
Former professional football player, Ryland Jessup returned to Gibson’s Run after the untimely death of his wife, accepting a job coaching his former high school team. He is pleasantly surprised by the return of his childhood crush, Tessa, and begins seeking ways for her to notice him.
Tessa begins to see Ryland as more than the childhood bully as she watches him with his daughter and he steps in to defend him with her students. Her heart begins to open toward him, but the return of her teenage crush, professional baseball player Joey Taylor, places Ryland on the bench while Joey woos Tessa.
Far from her adopted home of New Orleans, Tessa’s writing career has stalled. Without a deadline or a focus, she is unable to develop any ideas until the spark to write a children’s book comes to her. With the help of Ryland’s daughter Emma, Tessa begins to rediscover her call to her writing career.
With her renewed desire to write and a budding relationship with Joey, Tessa struggles with the teeter-totter of emotions she feels towards Ryland. She wants to keep him in the bully box of her childhood but his true feelings soften her heart.
She returns to New Orleans for the wedding of her best friend Lily. She sets meetings with an agent and her employers – Evanston & Evanston. Her meeting with E&E goes horribly as they ask her to challenge her ethics by writing tell-all books about either Ryland or Joey. Having always protected her client's secrets – only ever sharing what each subject wishes to share with the world – the idea of broadcasting the secrets of friends to regain her position is unthinkable.
She prays about her relationship with Joey and her feelings toward Ryland. God shows her she is in love with Ryland. Joey is just a friend.
Ryland surprises her at the agent’s office for the pitch. He calms an anxious Tessa when her fears of not regaining a writing career begin to pound against her in the waiting room. The agent’s lukewarm response to the book, causes the two to return to her apartment and a time of closeness to discuss next steps.
Tessa invites Ryland to the rehearsal where they run into her frenemy Bobbi Ann. After leaving the dinner, Ryland receives a call from Joey asking him to fill in at Lily’s wedding the next day. Ryland realizes Joey is dealing with old substance abuse issues and reaches out to Joey’s brothers.
While at the wedding Tessa shares her heart with him and the two realize they’ve fallen in love. Their bliss is quickly dampened when Joey’s brother calls Ryland and informs him of Joey’s car accident sending Tessa and Ryland to the hospital.
After helping Joey realize he needs to face his demons the couple returns to Gibson’s Run and lives in the bubble of love for the next week. While at dinner they are spotted by a reporter who reveals a tell-all book about Ryland’s wife and her affair is in the works. All of the circumstantial evidence points to Tessa as the author and Ryland is torn between his love for her and the betrayal he feels of her using him to renew her career.
Tessa fights for Ryland, but her pleas are not received. When her book receives offers, she runs away to New Orleans. Ryland realizes he made a mistake. He tries to reconnect with Tessa but runs into obstacles.
The mystery of Tessa’s break-in is revealed as the plan of Bobbi Ann in her quest to ruin Tessa’s life.
Ryland returns to New Orleans to woo Tessa back and his humility and honesty break through the barriers she has placed between them. With a proposal, they live happily ever after.

C.E. (Courtney) Hilbert is the author of NEW RELEASE – From Scratch (Pelican Books) and The Wooing of Jane Grey (Deep River Books)– nominated for 2012 Christian Book Awards Best New Author.
Her writing career began when she had to wait a WHOLE week in between Bookmobile visits. To fill the gap, she pulled out a pen and some paper and began to jot down stories while she awaited the next round of books delivered on wheels. And a passion began.
She enjoys the opportunity to share God’s love through her writing in a tangible, real and somewhat quirky way. She is convinced God has a sense of humor which is equal to the size of His patience level!
Outside of writing, she heads up the youth program at her church and one of her greatest passions is reaching young people on behalf of Christ. She is a sports fan (bordering on nuts) and is happiest at a hockey game when her team is winning, a Spring Training baseball game soaking up the sun or at a college football game cheering on a victory.
She currently lives in a 110+-year-old fixer-upper with her dog Daisy and she believes that life goes best with Jesus, a cute outfit and SportsCenter!
Here is part of her unofficial one which I believe you can find on her page in full, but I was sent in full but only did the official and this part because I thought it was cute...
My name is Courtney Hilbert and I’m a writer by night and weekends. I write under CE Hilbert because somewhere in my “creative” mind I believed using my initials would allow me some anonymity as I shared my heart through my writing. (So, I’m not exactly stealth but it makes signing checks MUCH easier with two letters rather than my WHOLE name.)
I could write a bunch of fluff (see below for my bio) about writing and what I love to do – yadda, yadda, yadda – but I imagine if you searched out this page, google to your heart’s content, you’ve already read the basics. (If not, again, please see below). Instead of my canned bio, I thought I would answer 10 questions to help you better know me. (And maybe you will want to send me your answers to the same 10 questions…Could be a fun game. Let’s see…)

This is where you go to her page and read the rest. ;)
