THE ALMOST WIVES CLUB #1

THE ALMOST WIVES CLUB                  NANCY WARREN

Five Brides–One Dress

Kate Winton-Jones is marrying one of America’s most eligible bachelors. Edward Carnarvon III is rich, handsome and hers. But at the final fitting of her wedding gown, one of the seamstresses pricks her and a tiny blood spot appears on the outrageously expensive gown. Its famous designer fires the clumsy seamstress on the spot, whereupon the girl puts a curse on the dress and storms out. Kate doesn't believe in curses. She’s modern, American and in love with the perfect guy. What could go wrong?

But that very evening she meets a man who makes her question her future. And then she discovers that Edward has been hiding a secret or two… and before you can say, “This dress is so cursed,” she’s on the run from Edward, his family, her mother, the paparazzi and the person she thought she was.

When the man who discovers her hiding place turns out to be the last man she should trust, it’s time to throw her cautious good sense out with the satin shoes she won’t be wearing. Playing it safe hasn’t done her much good. Maybe it’s time to play by a new set of rules. Her rules.

Sometimes Prince Charming is the one who turns out to be the frog, and true love appears in the most unexpected places.

Follow the cursed dress through five sets of bridal hands as four more women join The Almost Wives Club.

These are complete novels. Watch for:

MY REVIEW:
This is a book I’ve had too long on my TBR pile. I am so glad I pulled it out. It was a fun fast paced and funny read. The characters are interesting and current.
This is a country club couple that is engaged to be married. Edward (Ted) to Kate is tall, over six feet with blue eyes. He works for his father as a junior partner of the family business ever since getting his MBA from Harvard.
Kate came from family money but her mother has it not her. She works as a full-time fundraiser for an after-school program for at-risk girls. Her mom hates her working there she doesn’t think it is glamorous or high paying enough. But Kate really thinks it is important and believes in it.
Now she and Ted are about three weeks away from their wedding she goes for her last fitting and the designer fires one of the seamstresses on the stop for getting a blood spot on the dress. Mind you she was rushing the poor thing. Well, before the girl leaves, she turns to those in the room yelling at the designer and curses the dress, the designer, and the business.
The day only gets worse for Kate because then she has the sign a prenup Ted had not told her about. She is gets left by Ted on a Friday night in the middle of the trendiest restaurants in L.A. so he could go to an emergency meeting. When she says she’ll go with, he tells her to stop being so needy.
After she leaves, she is reminded he had not been very talkative like normal, he had been antsy and curt. When she had been sitting looking around earlier, she had seen a man who looked like he had been stood up. She wondered how that must feel she felt bad for him.   Especially, a man so handsome and rugged.
Little did she know that when Ted left that man would come and join her. Being as polite as she was raised, she couldn’t make a scene so she let him. She didn’t leave the table either. Because right at that moment Ted’s food was now being served to this man. So, this man starts to enjoy it and asks for a fresh wine glass. He also introduces himself as Nick.
They talk and at every chance, she shared that she was engaged to be married soon. When Nick said he would have never run out on her or at the very least if he had to, he would have taken her with him. She was pondering his statement but she never once all-night bad-mouthed Ted.
When things got too personal, she stood abruptly and said goodbye. Nick followed her out. Giving her his card and telling her not to marry her guy. You don’t love him. Call me if you ever need me at any time. Talk to Ted tell him how you really feel. She calls herself a cab and starts for home. When she keeps hearing the words playing back that Nick said, “Talk to Ted.”
So, she changes taxi routes and goes to Ted’s parents Cabana where Ted was staying till the wedding. As she is walking up she hears voices. She thinks wow the meeting got over quick. She’s in the shadows looking in the big bay window when she sees Ted serving his parents drinks and then her mother. Now she is puzzled.
But then she hears Ted’s dad ask, “So How did she do?” Then she hears and sees someone that she wished she hadn’t. Nick, “She passed with flying colors. You found a winner, Ted. She is not a cheater she is true blue. And I tried. She’s as loyal as they come.”
Then she sees Ted’s dad hand, Nick, a check. Then he says he has to leave he has another big case. He leaves but he doesn’t see her in the shadows. She barges into the cabana and throws the ring at Ted and tells them all the wedding is off.
See what happens from here. There is an uproar because they have over three hundred guests coming. The embarrassment of it all. Now the bride is AWOL.
I give this: 5 stars. Provided by netgalley.com.
