MY REVIEW:
What a hilarious book. The characters in this book were just so much fun to get to know. They were like peeling the layers of an onion, a little at a time, and a whole new dimension came to you about them. You never knew what you would get and that made you want to keep reading. A few tears, or a lot of laughs all good in the end.
Each character was unique in the way they acted yet they were home and familiar if that makes sense. You see the story revolves around the author of a book series that is coming to an end. She started it when she was in high school and a very awkward teen and now she is just an awkward adult. But unknown to her, on her birthday, when she was drunk, she signed a contract saying that at the end of the last book coming out her, Bellamy Stone, would do a book tour as her character.
She wouldn’t mind that too much in general because of the fact that her character is kickass and brave. But she also looks like a rocker chick in black skin tight leather, black goth makeup, blown-out hair, and a low cut top showing cleavage. So, not her. For most of that might not seem like a lot but for Bell who has not shown herself and stayed out of the limelight, it is a panic attack waiting to happen.
So, she has to meet with the roommate, best friend, and assistant Nat Porter to go over her options. Nat tells her she has none. She also tells her she has to stop drunk signing. Bell is not laughing. Nat says she will have to take the trip and it will be good for them to take the road trip to meet her devoted fans. Plus, it will give her time to cozy up to the model counterpart of the character she wrote as her lead male Max.
Let the meltdown begin. She is just outraged. How could they possibly find someone she made-up? None the less not include her in the process. Nat says, “Her trusted fan base picked the guy that not only looked spot on but, acted, and spoke like Max the character does. She doesn’t believe it.
Until she literally runs into him, Caleb Pace, he mistakes her for an awestruck stalker fan and is rude to her. Now pissed. Then, she is more pissed after a Beauty transformation and they meet to go on the trip and he acts like he doesn’t know her and he is traveling with Logan his own personal assistant. Really?! She thinks…why? When he starts capping on her she says, “You’re just the eye candy why do you need an assistant?”
Caleb has his own ghost in his closet to contend with and Bell is just the girl to stir up every messy emotion that will bring them to the surface. Yet, at the same time, she brings out the protector in him as well as all his old insecurities. It becomes a toss-up as to who has the most issues to resolve or who can be the rudest. But before you know it these two have set up their own set of rules to get through the drive.
From the minute the door closes on the SUV, it’s on. The kid gloves are off and these two have the fight to settle. Who will win? Or will it be a draw? You will have to read to find out. Just know you won’t be disappointed. I give this book 5 ++++ stars.
