HOOKED BRENDA ROTHERT
From the author of the On the Line and Fire on Ice hockey romance series comes a sultry novel featuring a brooding NHL player who’s hell on skates—and the no-nonsense woman who forces him to clean up his act.
Miranda: Even though I’m broke, putting myself through college, and working two jobs, I’m trying to make the best of it. Meanwhile, Jake Birch, hockey’s hottest bad boy, lives in a luxury hotel in downtown Chicago—and still complains about every little thing in his penthouse. But after I tell him off, instead of getting me fired, Jake requests me as his personal housekeeper. Then he starts flirting with me. Only I’m not flirting back . . . at least, I’m trying not to. Did I mention that he’s hockey’s hottest bad boy?
Jake: I’ve met the best woman at the worst possible time. Miranda is the fire to my ice—a sexy, charmingly candid spark who breaks down my walls and reminds me what it’s like to feel again. But I’m being forced to date my team owner’s daughter to keep my job, so I can’t be caught with Miranda. Still, we’re getting closer—until Miranda finds out about my “girlfriend.” And that’s not the only secret I’ve been keeping. But Miranda’s the one I want . . . even if she doesn’t believe me.
PAT'S REVIEW
Miranda Carr is going to college part time, working as a bartender once a week, and is a full time maid at the DuPont Hotel in Chicago. Her boss Tony is a jerk but she needs the job, and when she is assigned to the penthouse floor she is not looking forward to it at all, especially when she thinks the room is empty and she finds a women walking out of the shower. Just as she finishes her cleaning of the room she ends up ruining a white dress shirt that was on the bed and she decides to hide it on her cart thinking she might get fired. The next day being assigned to the same floor she ends up meeting JAKE Birch hockey star, and captain of the Chicago team, she does not know who he is other than an arrogant, jerk, and ass. He begins to tell her that he needs a brand of water in 16oz, not 32oz, wanting her to buy these things for him she explains to him that she is just the maid but makes a note to give to the front desk, but commenting after everything he says. Like 16oz because you can’t get a glass a pour half of the bottle in it and have your 16oz or what happens to you. Turns out he actually likes her because she does not cut him any slack and does not want anything from him. The more he is around her the he wants to be with her and actually stops being a jerk. The problem comes in when he is forced to act like he is dating the owner’s daughter when he really wants to be with Miranda. He is also frustrated because she does not want anything from him. Their relationship changes when she happens to run into him at a children hospital where she was helping at and he was their dressed up as a clown because he did not want the press to find out. That is when you find out more about his life and how his brother passed away. She also helps him and his parents get back together, the only sticking point is when she finds out about the owners daughter and now he must fix things. This is way more than a hockey book, it is about overcoming loss, finding yourself so you can find the right person, and truly a love story. a very good book with very good characters.
